If they do how frequently do deaths occur from this practice?

I think they might have wooden bamboo planks similar to those Japanese sandals you see. That way only the bamboo comes into direct contact with the bottom of the can, and it's not nearly as conductive to heat.

Water diffuses the heat. Metal barrel radiates heat with fairly high surface area. Water evaporates removing energy from the system.

    It's very safe.

From what I've read, there is usually a deck or wooden steps that make it easier to get inside of. The wooden block is free floating so people have to stand on them. As for the heat, it's a 55 gallon (209 liter) drum. It's probably half to 3/5 filled, so that's 27.5 gallons (104.5 liters) to 33 gallons (125 liters) of water in it. The water absorbs the heat so the edges aren't that hot. It's just so much larger in scale than your example.

I've decided to divide americans into 3 groups over the years.

Group one, normal people; they function in society.
Group two, political nuts; they almost blend in with normal people, but can do nothing but push their agenda to the point where it's counterproductive
Groups three, nothing but animals which were mistakenly added to the census.

I'd say there's a large 4th group comprised of people who function normally in society but know almost nothing outside of how to read, write, and do their specific job. No knowledge of history, science, other cultures, etc. I think that's the group that makes Americans in general look like idiots, and most people I know fall into this group. I blame the school system and anti-intellectualism.

Well, to be honest, being able to read, write, and do your job is all that's important in life. It's more a matter of Americans being more comfortable with that, while other places, especially Western Europe, value a well-rounded education and intellectualism more highly. Americans aren't inherently dumber or anything, they just live in a society with less pressure to learn.

    >It's more a matter of Americans being more comfortable with that

No, see, that sort of implies that they thought about it and decided that in the grand scheme of things it wasn't important, but they don't. There's no thought involved, that's kinda the problem and why they react poorly to people that do try to learn things in the first place. These people don't think about anything, no one makes them to think about anything, and they don't have the tools to think about anything to begin with, which is why they get defensive when someone tells them they're wrong or stupid; they have no way to fight that sort of thing but to react emotionally and circle the wagons, which brings the public discourse to the level of trolling on /b/.

I can't really disagree with you, but when I said they're more comfortable with being less educated, I meant it to be implied that their comfort with being less intelligent (or as they would call it 'simple') is something of a side-effect of the way the nation developed and as such is part of the psyche, not that Americans actually decided to be under-educated. America was frontier and/or populated by immigrants all speaking different languages for so much of its development that education was mostly on the level of triage and could never really become national focus.

Not excusing it, we should have gotten our shit together on education a long time ago, but kids can't vote and the older generations we've had since WWII are far more concerned about themselves than their kids. They'd stop public education altogether if it extended their retirement benefits a few more years.
