4 years ago this show aired. I thought to myself, "I'll get around to watching that eventually. Maybe I'll pick up the batch." 4 years later, I sat down and marathoned it.Wow. I am truly ashamed that I didn't watch this sooner and participate in the threads back in '07. So many awesome VAs in this too! Also Baccano! thread.
>That Luck Gandor>His VA!>That surprise at the final episode
Obligatory crazy Sugita
>>55880392>4 years later>still no season 2
I sort of know that feel OP, I watched Steins; Gate after most of the hubbub on here died down, because I have serious trouble picking up anything /a/ highly likes thinking it will be some weird lolicon crap.I guess now I go by the rule that /a/ will recommend at least two decent anime per season, and am not so quick to judge.
>>55880527There's still the manga right!
>There will never be a second season;_;
>>55880579The Baccano manga was pretty bad.
>>55880392You, good sir, deserve one hell of a brofist.
Who was the popular female to /a/ when this aired?I like Rachel.
>>55880694So was the anime adaption.
>>55880702Oh god>>55880703How come!
>>55880705She's favorite female character too.
I didn't really think much of it. Not bad, but not something I would watch twice.
>>55880734It's honestly not as bad as people like to say it is. I mean, yeah, it's not faithful to the novels in some parts, but I feel like it's worth it so that I can get some feel for the voices of the characters in my head. Now whenever I read Baccano I have the luxury of mixing dub/original voices inside my head however it suits me.For some reason this also allows me to put voice actors to characters who were never animated as well. So it works out great for me.
currently watching it, love the opening
The only show with a good tier list.
Does anyone have the screencap where they are demanding subs?
Why was he so insanely powerful?
>>55881074Because Narita enjoys having insanely powerful characters who are basically the living, breathing embodiment of violence in his works. One per series.
>>55881074Don't you know? Circus people can do FUCKING ANYTHING.Pic related.
>>55881074Because Narita needs an a walking Deus ex Machina in every series so that he can end a conflict quickly.
>>55881126I suppose Shizuo is the other?
Dropped at episode 4. Over 9000 yawns were counted.
>>55881126>One per series.Durarara has three. And there is an even stronger villain who is pulling all the strings apparently.
>>55881236He's the original one for DRRR, yes.
Season 2 when? ;_;I already know; never
>>55881278>Durarara has three.What?
>>55880828You have to watch Baccano at least twice. Once subbed and once dubbed.
>>55881278Durarara just has one. No character comes close to Shizuo's raw power but he's a bad character so who cares anyway.
>>55881256But anon, this isnt Durarara
You can tell that Wakamoto loves to say the name "Carol"
>>55881395But Durarara's first few eps are better.
>>55881395>Durarara>boringI can see why people might dislike it, but it's not boring.
What are Narta's other works besides DRRR and Baccano?
>>55881552Bow-WowHariyama-san, the Center of the WorldVamp!A couple more that I can't remember at the moment. Baccano and DRRR are his longest.
>>55881606Also Etsusa Bridge. All apparently take place in the same universe.
>>55881678One day they're all going to come together in one big feature film where the have to fight a really scary villain.
Baccano:AnimeArrested development:american TVso... miniseries and a movie anyone?
>>55881768Wouldn't really make sense since the power levels between his series are so wildly out of proportion to one another.
>>55881924They'll make it work somehow.
Baccano! was great, but I must say: Its fanbase is mostly composed by retards.
I wish Funimation had packaged a couple of the light novels with the dvd or blu-ray, I definitely would've bought that.
>>55881983everyfanbaseever.pdf
>>55881924They're fairly consistent between Baccano and Durarara. Vamp! and Hariyama on the other hand, yeah.
>>55882028No, really. The amount of retarded people in Baccano's fanbase is higher than in a lot of other fanbases. It even exceeds the retard rate of FLCL's fanbase.
>>55882082Since when did FLCL have a fanbase?
>>55882082Are we talking just /a/ or in general? Baccano's fanbase on /a/ has become pretty shitty as of late though.
>>55882017That woulda required someone to translate them first.>>55881983Eh, no better or worse than any other "relatively obscure but personally I think it's the best ever and you are a moefag/shounenfag/whatever-other-derogatory-term-I-can-kneejerk-out-of-my-gob for disagreeing" fanbase. They haven't yet gotten to the point where I regret taking up translating the novels. I did come close a few times, but not because of /a/.
>>55882152Eh... in /a/ I think. I don't know how its fanbase is in other places.
>>55882260Actually, no, I'm lying, the dub-vs-sub shitathons I see on /a/ are pretty goddamn tiresome to see and it just makes me sigh and cradle my head in my hands sometimes.
I've been showing my house mate this, but he seems to be getting overly annoyed by the fact that half the plot happens on the train. I keep telling him about all the beautiful fight scenes and the got tier characters, but the fool doesn't believe me.He's seen three episodes so far.
>>55882344That sucks. After finishing the show, I rewatched ep 1 to get a better understanding on some things.
>>55882340>dub-vs-sub shitathonsI was just about comment on that. I know that shit has been wearing you out, spore. It's probably the same for most of us that have been long time fans of the series. It's so rare to see a thread that actually evolves discussion about the series itself now days.
>>55882535I imagine it's the lack of new content and people who continue to make threads about it regardless. New translated novel material doesn't seem to help since only a small group of people is really interested in reading fan translations online. I can't really talk about most of the novel stuff here either because a lot of it remains untranslated so I'd be spoiling everyone and looking like an asshole.Such suffering.
>this threadI wish it was 2007 once again.
>>55882421Does suck. But now I want to watch it again. And I'm learning more about it now. So all has been saved.
>>55882665True, we pretty much just see the same rehashed threads these days. I guess that is to be expected. One thing that I find interesting is that, here on /a/, there seem to be more people that have knowledge of the Durarara novels over those with knowledge of Baccano's novels for some reason. I really thought that it would be the other way around.Oh yeah, I like spoilers.
>>55883031> seem to be more people that have knowledge of the Durarara novels over those with knowledge of Baccano's novelsMore recent anime adaptation, more interest from the fujoshi portion of the fanbase, who're always eager for more tidbits of characterizations to fuel their shipping (that's not a bad thing, mind). More consistent rate of translation too, I suppose. God knows I've delayed this chapter release for long enough.Sadly, most of the people with knowledge of the Baccano novels in the West are reading spoilers off of tvtropes anyway, which is incidentally pretty disheartening to see, by the by.
>>55883031This thread was going to be about discussions until "i dun like their fan base :(((" popped up.
>>55883212It can still be about discussion, you know. If there's anything anyone wants to discuss.
>>55883204Kind of sad how the inferior work is more popular simply because it panders more and it's more recent. Not saying DRRR is bad, it's just not as good as Baccano
>>55883360>inferior work>it's just not as good as BaccanoOpinions.I prefer the Durarara novels personally. I think that several of the characters are just better developed and more interesting. Also think that some of them are far, far worse. But this is also opinions.
>>55883360I'll refrain from judging until I finally muster the resolve to read the rest of DRRR I have on my bookshelf, but yes, I find Baccano's characters immensely endearing in a way that DRRR's can't quite match up to.I dunno about the pandering, though. Baccano has quite a few very popular BL pairings, including a Claire/Ladd "I hate your guts so much we must fuck now" pairing that mirrors the Shizaya ship quite well. Not to mention Huey's "Oh Elmer you are the only person in the whole wide world who is my friend" schtick, Graham's canon obsession with Ladd and uncomfortable degree of disregard for his underling Shaft's personal space, etc etc. Where there's a will, there's a way.
>>55883588I've never read the novels, I was just referring to anime. My apologies for not being clear.
>>55883588Claudia should be wrapping Illness in that hug too. ;_;Also, needs more Renee. And Monica. And the Beriams. And Tim and Adelle. And a buncha other people who I can't think of right now.
>>55883617>Huey's "Oh Elmer you are the only person in the whole wide world who is my friend" schtickInterestingly, that sort of mirrors Izaya and Shinra's relationship.
>>55883806True, but it does gain a certain strength when you've been around for 300 years and that still holds.
>>55883630Yeah, as a stand alone work, I'd agree. Baccano is more enjoyable. I know that people give the anime adaption flack for deviating from the novels but I feel that the Durarara anime is in some cases a worse offender. There's a significant amount of filler that was added to Durarara for what appears to be no other reason than fujoshi pandering. I guess you do whatever it takes to make things sell.
>>55881011Have it? I made the original thread!
Oh woop, I found the directors cut edition, too.
