The really crazy thing is, Kaiji is actually a really intelligent and talented guy. His problem is that this talent only shows itself in do-or-die situations, and the rest of the time his life is perpetuated by laziness and other problems.

He is like /a/... He pretty much thinks that people who have money are bad people. It was implied when he broke Endou's car and thought that a person who drives a BMW can't be a good person, also he was pretty rude towards Ichijou right from the start. He's really just depressed because he's a NEET and doesn't have money but he still doesn't like working or being ordered around, that's why he's hooked on gambling. He still has a kind heart and he's naive and dumb, he trusts too easily on people who are "on his level". He's pathetic yet still so moe.

It's more like, his sense of the worth of money has been completely warped since he started gambling. He's won, and had chances to win, much, MUCH more money than he knows he could ever earn from even a lifetime of working. After seeing how much he could potentially get, he likely doesn't think working for it his whole life is even worth the trouble to make a fraction of an amount he could make from gambling.

Addiction to things like this is a serious problem. You get hooked on gambling, or things like extreme sports, or even just drugs, and there's not really a chance to turn back after that point until you lose everything on that addiction.

I'd probably have that same problem if I wound up with a job like the one he had. Sucking up to the boss and pretending to be a diligent little worker bee always pisses me off, I wouldn't be able to put up with that shit for more than a few days at most.

Part 3 shows some growth in that aspect, because he refuses to gamble until he´s sure that the game is rigged, since a cheat can be overwritten with another cheat. So it's not mindless gambling, he takes more like a job, with a risk, but a job.

The last episode wasn't received as well as episode 25, probably because episode 25 was the climax and 26 was just wrapping up the end of the second season.
Most of the threads were just having fun pointing out the references to other Fukumoto works (Hotel Akagi, Zero walking in the background, Akagi on the posters at the end, etc.) and other people being pleased at hearing s1's OP playing again right at the very end of the episode.

Then there were people who were pissed off about Endou taking his share from Kaiji's winnings, and some people saying they were pleased at how the episode felt much more conclusive than season 1's as a good stopping point, while yet others felt that it just left Kaiji right back where he started in an (arguably) worse position than before the whole mess started.

I'd say overall it was actually pretty well-received, even if there were some people with mixed feelings over how things turned out. In my opinion though, it was an absolutely fantastic adaptation overall.

Well, at the start of season 1 he just seemed to be a lazy NEET (or possibly a freeter) who went around puncturing tires and stealing hood ornaments to relieve stress, but that was before he wound up knee-deep in debt.
By the end of part 2 he's essentially hooked on gambling, can't even get off his ass to work, and even becomes borderline-hikikomori for a period of time before eventually winding up in gambling yet again. It's like Endou said at the start of part 2(?), Kaiji has basically become a junkie hooked on gambling and lured in by the idea of winning big instead of doing honest work to earn the money himself.

Though at least by the end of part 2 he's got all his debts paid, made a lot of new acquaintances, and given Teiai a pretty big hit after they stuck him in so much debt in the first place. In my opinion it would be fine if the anime left off there instead of continuing like the manga did, but honestly I wouldn't mind a season 3 or even season 4 after that. It's just that the end of part 2 feels like a pretty good stopping point, since Kaiji's no longer being chased by loan sharks or being forced to work the rest of his life underground or anything like that.

Kaiji and Ichijou team up, backed by new Vice President (Ichigo I think?). They take down Hyoudo

Kaiji joins Teiei. Years later, he's a black suit going to some debtor's house. Asks the guy if he wants to take a drive, finds his car tires slashed. He tells the guy to go home, and that he needs to pay his debt within the month. The guy runs off, Kaiji pulls out a piece of paper from his pocket: a ticket for The Espoir. He rips it up, and walks off.

That would be the final gample, one epic show to conclude the story of Kaiji, when he and Hyoudou bet on the future of Japan.
Considering how Hyoudou is powerful, it seems believable. He probably have his hands on the japanese government.

This has never happened to me yet but I had an experience that was opposite of it, I wanted to quit my job but my boss wanted to keep me. In the end I had to pay back half of the pay I got there because I had mindlessly signed contracts I didn't read well enough, it's pretty unusual but in cases like that it's possible for the employer to make you pay if you leave before you're supposed to. I got a better job though so while I lost all that money I got a way better life in return and also learnt not to be so stupid. Now that I think about it I should have just tried to get fired but I couldn't do it.

That's called being overqualified for your job, I think. Or it might relate to that sort of state. Either way, the last time I was overqualified for something, I was pretty much being ripped off to do everybody's work under the guise of 'training'. For pretty much no compensation.

That actually reminded me of when I made it to this point when reading Majikoi. Sums up both Kaiji and situations in the real world as well, it's always important to read the fine print in these contracts no matter how simple the terms seem at first glance.
You never know when you're going to be screwed over by some paperwork you absentmindedly signed without reading through it all carefully and properly.
