What is the best player/codecs/etc to easily and effectively play it?

Ordinary mplayer works perfectly for me. mplayer2 presumably would as well.

In my experience even a non-compatible player MOSTLY works though, only a couple of brief scenes were messed up in underwater's lka Musume S2E1.

Guess what, Jimbo. If your DirectShow player is fucked up, chances are that you have conflicting filters somewhere. In this case, the best way to fix it is to uninstall fucking everything and install something that is known to work properly. When it comes to DirectShow filters and playback, more is not necessarily better and for example installing two codec packs is just completely balls-to-the-walls retarded.

You don't need to follow that to use madVR as a renderer - you can just install CCCP and then install madVR. After that, you can just choose madVR as your renderer in MPC-HC. I wouldn't recommend using madVR for H.264 decoding because it limits what external DirectShow filters you can use.

10-bit encoding is mature technology with obvious benefits. 64-bit playback on the other hand is hardly relevant today since most things tend to be more optimized for their 32-bit versions, and that is if they even have a 64-bit version available.

You don't, you have to do it manually with Print Screen. Easiest way would be to press 1, alt+printscreen and pasting into your image editor of choice (I use Paint.NET). If you miss the ability of easy single-key screenshotting a lot, then you should rather use EVR-CP.

    MPC-HC
    CoreAVC (Pirate the 3.0.1 version)
    Install Haali included with CoreAVC

    Open up MPC-HC>Options
External Filters-> and add CoreAVC, set to prefer
Internal FIlters-> Disable all the DXVA shit

Go to CoreAVC from you start menu, CoreAVC setting, set to prefer>show in tray icon

Done. none of this free fag, pick from 10,000 algorithms that do jack shit except for a few esoteric encodes/setups bullshit.

Pick whatever works best for you, I myself used the LAV Filter method until Corecodec fixed all the bugs with the 3.0 version they released, then I moved over to CoreAVC.

I don't see a spec of image difference and there have been many instances where I've posted 10bit screenshots using CoreAVC and /a/non thinks I'm using madVR.

Yeah, madVR is shit, I'm not sure why the fuck anybody recommends it. Half of /a/ used it and subsequently dropped it when it claimed it gave better image quality with 8bit encodes. Don't know what is with all the hype recently.

Use the LAV Filters method but use Haali media splitter instead of the LAV Splitter if you want that. Or CoreAVC for a painless install.
