The beginning will probably be a little slow, but it's amazing after a few episodes. This isn't like most shonen where they stand and discuss shit in the middle of the fight, or where power level determine all.

The manga has someone killing another guy in the middle of his speech saying something along the line of "I'm not gonna miss an opening just because you want to talk", and it has a rookie develop a tactic and "power" just for the sake of revenge and manages to kill people 500 levels higher then him.

The original followed the manga closely, but Added some more to the Hunter exam arc. The filler they added to the arc wasn't bad either. Watch the original if you want, it's good, but no you don't need to watch it to understand the new one (supposedly).

But after re-reading it a few weeks ago and following the manga weekly now I changed my opinion. Just watched the RAW, and as expected, it seems like Madhouse will be rushing through the Hunter exam arc. IMO, comparing it to the original will be kinda stupid until this one reaches the Zoldyck Family arc. In his fight with Netero he just shrugged off countless super attacks at the speed of sound that left giant holes in the ground, and after surviving the nuke he could fly, shoot mountain-destroying Nen blasts, had a huge En that could read people's feelings, could move faster than anyone else we've seen and probably some more crazy stuff I'm forgetting.
