    >Aniplex USA releasing OreImo on DVD, not Blu-ray

I suppose it's due to cost, but I'm disappointed. Of course, it's a limited edition thing, too. Aniplex USA is supposed to be the like the old Bandai Visual brand?

It's a very nice package, but I want blu-rays! They probably won't even consider blu-rays unless this DVD package sells. Sad shit.

    Economically, it's a good choice

If it was BD I wouldn't ve surprised if they just upscaled everything

Also, when will they release Kara no Kyoukai BDs to the general public? I hope that $400 box set wasn't the only discs of it we'll see.

Probably expecting American fans to import the Japanese BD if they wanted it. The problem is that anime on Blu-ray in the U.S. is a small niche within what already a small niche market to begin with (and it doesn't help that OreImo is a niche title to boot). After Bandai Visual got burned on HiDef (in no small part because of their pricing and the fact that the format was was still going strong), it's no surprise that other companies are going to take the cautious approach.

It may come eventually, but not right away. Sadly, this does not bode well for Madoka getting a BD release in the U.S. anytime soon, either, given that Aniplex has that as well.

"My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute" is an incredibly creepy title. Most people, even fans of the show, would be ashamed to keep it on their shelves, and absolutely no stores would sell it.

The whole show was a massive troll, very dissapointing. Nothing happens with anyone, just a few intimate teases. It could have been much more.

    Because the fanbase hates it.

When Geneon released Higurashi as "When They Cry" (actually, it was "When They Cry: Higurashi" - which may indicate they were already planning for Umineko - but the Higurashi part usually got dropped in reviews and marketing materials), people complained. When FUNi released SnH as "My Bride is a Mermaid," there was a Category 4 shitstorm on /a/.

Hardly anyone calls Kare Kano "His and Her Circumstances," even though that's the literal translation of the title and that's what it was released as. Same goes for Shinobuden: no one calls it Ninja Nonsense. I could go on, but won't.

There's precedent for using the fan nickname, too: FUNi released Kodomo no Omocha (or the first season of it, anyhow, then didn't complete it because it didn't sell well enough) as "Kodocha."

Pretty sure both of those cases were because it's not a proper translation of the titles in either case.

(Yeah, Higurashi has "When They Cry" as part of the series name, but that's for the metaseries as a whole; the actual title of the first season was "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni", "When the Cidadas Cry".)

Interestingly enough, Bandai announced they're putting English subs on the Japanese-market Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere BDs.
Wonder if this will become standard.
And the foreign releases will be DVD-only.

Probably just Bandai recognizing they can make some decent sales in english speaking markets even if it means people are importing. Unlike other companies, they have a strong presence in the US.

Maybe not "never," but probably "not until the production companies are convinced that most everyone who's going to buy it in Japan already has." After all, Clannad is about to get a BD release.

I suspect in the future we'll see a DVD release (as long as that format remains viable) within 6-18 months (sooner for more popular shows, later for less popular), with Blu-ray following about a year later, but I'm just guessing at those figures.

    >>55017294
When you consider that reverse importing is the biggest issue, if anything Madoka is in worse shape.

    >>55017326

Oh, maybe. I was mostly just questioning that Oreimo tells us anything about Madoka. BMG tells us more.

Speaking which, is that EVER going to be licensed?

The French title, le sanglot des cigales is great though, because the sang is in red, and sang means blood.
