>Aniplex USA releasing OreImo on DVD, not Blu-rayI suppose it's due to cost, but I'm disappointed. Of course, it's a limited edition thing, too. Aniplex USA is supposed to be the like the old Bandai Visual brand? It's a very nice package, but I want blu-rays! They probably won't even consider blu-rays unless this DVD package sells. Sad shit.
Not bad for $60, but still.
Economically, it's a good choiceIf it was BD I wouldn't ve surprised if they just upscaled everything
>>55016500Also, when will they release Kara no Kyoukai BDs to the general public? I hope that $400 box set wasn't the only discs of it we'll see.
Why would you want it anyways? OreImo sucked.
>>55016778>It's called OreImo in the american releaseWTF
>>55016943I'm also curious why they didn't just use the full English translation, but whatever.
>>55016983Because normalfags wouldn't buy an anime titled "My little sister can't possibly be this cute"
>>55017087>>my sister and me
>buying OrelmoISHYGDDT
>Oreimo>not Orelmo
>>55016500Probably expecting American fans to import the Japanese BD if they wanted it. The problem is that anime on Blu-ray in the U.S. is a small niche within what already a small niche market to begin with (and it doesn't help that OreImo is a niche title to boot). After Bandai Visual got burned on HiDef (in no small part because of their pricing and the fact that the format was was still going strong), it's no surprise that other companies are going to take the cautious approach. It may come eventually, but not right away. Sadly, this does not bode well for Madoka getting a BD release in the U.S. anytime soon, either, given that Aniplex has that as well.
>US BD release>reverse importEnjoy never having legit BDs.
Does AIC even animate in HD?I'd assumed that the Blu-ray was just an upscale
>>55017223>Oreimo = MadokaThese are in totally different leagues.
>>Buy OreImo on R1 DVD>>Put downloaded BD rips in the shiny cases
>>55017253It was, as I recall.
I wonder if they'll release Madoka BDs.
>>55017225I think it's this. For blu-ray us and japan are in the same region.
>>55017308Be just like Kirino!Except with ripped anime rather than eroge.
>>55017223Except Bandai Visual has had no issues with a simultaneous JP/EN release of BD's for Gundam UC. But that franchise is known to be popular in the US and Bandai has no problems marketing it.
>>55017510I want Code Geass in blu-ray (deal with it). Come on Bandai.
Man, I'm conflicted. Overall the anime wasn't that good, but DAT KURONEKO.The specials were pretty funny though.
>>55016943"My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute" is an incredibly creepy title. Most people, even fans of the show, would be ashamed to keep it on their shelves, and absolutely no stores would sell it.
>>55017612 The whole show was a massive troll, very dissapointing. Nothing happens with anyone, just a few intimate teases. It could have been much more.
>>55016983Because the fanbase hates it.When Geneon released Higurashi as "When They Cry" (actually, it was "When They Cry: Higurashi" - which may indicate they were already planning for Umineko - but the Higurashi part usually got dropped in reviews and marketing materials), people complained. When FUNi released SnH as "My Bride is a Mermaid," there was a Category 4 shitstorm on /a/.Hardly anyone calls Kare Kano "His and Her Circumstances," even though that's the literal translation of the title and that's what it was released as. Same goes for Shinobuden: no one calls it Ninja Nonsense. I could go on, but won't.There's precedent for using the fan nickname, too: FUNi released Kodomo no Omocha (or the first season of it, anyhow, then didn't complete it because it didn't sell well enough) as "Kodocha."
>>55017781> When Geneon released Higurashi as "When They Cry" (actually, it was "When They Cry: Higurashi" - which may indicate they were already planning for Umineko - but the Higurashi part usually got dropped in reviews and marketing materials), people complained. When FUNi released SnH as "My Bride is a Mermaid," there was a Category 4 shitstorm on /a/.Pretty sure both of those cases were because it's not a proper translation of the titles in either case.(Yeah, Higurashi has "When They Cry" as part of the series name, but that's for the metaseries as a whole; the actual title of the first season was "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni", "When the Cidadas Cry".)
But even Ryukishi uses the title When They Cry.
Oh god, somebody has to scan the character booklets. I'm still missing the one from the last volume
>>55017566Interestingly enough, Bandai announced they're putting English subs on the Japanese-market Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere BDs.Wonder if this will become standard. And the foreign releases will be DVD-only.
>>55018038Probably just Bandai recognizing they can make some decent sales in english speaking markets even if it means people are importing. Unlike other companies, they have a strong presence in the US.
>>55018038I don't know how I feel about that, given that Japanese BD releases cost a fuckton.
>>55017225>>55017327Maybe not "never," but probably "not until the production companies are convinced that most everyone who's going to buy it in Japan already has." After all, Clannad is about to get a BD release.I suspect in the future we'll see a DVD release (as long as that format remains viable) within 6-18 months (sooner for more popular shows, later for less popular), with Blu-ray following about a year later, but I'm just guessing at those figures.>>55017294When you consider that reverse importing is the biggest issue, if anything Madoka is in worse shape.>>55017326I hope so, and I expect we will eventually, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
>>55017979>>55018014the problem with "when they cry" is that it's just a horrible english title. It might work in Japanese but not in English.
>>55018160>When you consider that reverse importing is the biggest issue, if anything Madoka is in worse shape.Oh, maybe. I was mostly just questioning that Oreimo tells us anything about Madoka. BMG tells us more.Speaking which, is that EVER going to be licensed?
>>55018217The French title, le sanglot des cigales is great though, because the sang is in red, and sang means blood.
