I picked up the Umakoshi artbook recently (some really good heartcatch and doremi art), and was thinking that it would be awesome to see Doremi again. The series was set up perfectly for a return in X years.

Anyone old enough to remember Doremi has to be at least in high school by now. Nine years is an eternity in kids' TV.

This reboot won't be for little girls at all. The light novel is serialized in an otaku-driven magazine. Doremi already looks slightly sexy in the first promo picture.

Music is pretty damn important and well done (impressive, even) on the OD universe, and all of the openings were awesome, musically and visually, and I guess I'm glad the fad of encouraging the viewers to learn the cute little dances started after the series ended.

As far as magic goes, it's an old-school magic show. Little kids get magic powers and use them for simple mischief or to help people.

However what really resonates is the characters.
There's a scene in the op for the final season where it shows half a dozen characters, and then zooms out to a dozen, then 20, then something like 40 characters. And it suddenly hits you "I know ALL these characters", and not just their names, their whole story.

It also tackles a lot of mature themes for a little girls show.
