This spamming business is getting out of hand. Once in a while is fine, but now every Tom Dick and Harry is doing it.

    Can it be helped?

You don't think they've done everything within their power?

Evading bans isn't difficult at all, and the main spammers have access to an essentially unlimited number of proxies.

Or just make a new thread every time one gets spammed.

I've said it before: it takes me entering one captcha to start a thread. It takes spammer hundreds to kill a thread.

I believe this is the best course of action - even though it will eventually lead to people complaining about the number of threads about a certain thing, they can just blame the spammer for that. And if the whole first page is flooded with the spam, moot might try paying some attention to this issue.

But they have begun sharing the program so a grand surge is upon us that will only increase.

    We live in sour times.

I'm bumping this thread only to increase awareness that this is not just a handful of people.

As little of 4 of them are enough to turn the front page into a cacophony of shitty shit. And like I have said they are sharing the program much more frequently.

And uh... this thread just happens to be giving them the attention they want, so I'm not going to stick around.

Here is how we stop the spammers:

    1. Find their real life identities. I know this can be done -- a proxy can only mask your location, not make you completely anonymous. I mean, if a bunch of idiots from /b/ can hack NATO, we should be able to find the names of the people spamming.

    2. Terrorize them in real life. Even if they don't have a facebook page, they have an address and probably a phone number.

    3. They stop spamming.

Then they start to thirst for more, all Shounen is shit, lets spam Bleach and One Piece too.

And then the retaliation starts, they spam our Shounen, we'll spam their moe. Pretty soon it's all just a chaotic mess.

    He's evolving.

So who wants to invent the script that determines whether a post is written in legible English sentence structure.

    Any volunteers?

And suddenly, 4chan is devoid of any post at all

he can push it to the bump limit though, but then he'll have to post very fast, which he doesn't like doing, all this evading filters has actually hurt the spammer in the end

Lets place bets on when he'll start spamming with threads. But since the cooldown on new threads is very long, he'll probably just bump ones up from page 15.

If he's using proxies, wouldn't he be able to avoid the cooldown period? Is there a board-wide feature that prevents threads from being created too quickly in general?

he'll need alot more proxies to do it, seeing as he'll go from a cooldown of 30 seconds to something like 5 minutes

Overall, it's a pretty difficult problem to solve.
    >> Anonymous 08/17/11(Wed)20:58 No.53498306
Worst thing he could probably do right now would be to release the new script, since text bombing would be rampant
    >> Anonymous 08/17/11(Wed)20:59 No.53498328
    >>53497793
But that's mostly pointless. Taking out image capacity is more important than bump capacity in most cases.

If he spams with no image it's just another stupid post I'm not going to read.

    >> Anonymous 08/17/11(Wed)21:02 No.53498486
The problem with spamming is that, in the long run, it completely shits on /a/. Fuck, do you remember how it was like before the captcha?

These guys think they're making /a/ better by spamming threads that are not /a/-related, but that eventually devolves into spamming threads they simply don't like, and then, once the script is available for everybody, everyone else starts spamming in retaliation, turning /a/ into a further shithole than it already is.

Some of them are trolls, but some are really, truly nuts. A troll will get bored after a while, a crazy person will never, ever get bored. This was a huge problem on usenet back in the day- it had similar lack of moderation/control as 4chan, and the net.kooks abounded. In the long run what killed them was the mass departure from usenet- leaving many groups with only kooks.

One thing I will say for the spammer is that he's really good at reading captchas. I have a lot of trouble when the word gets doubled and slid down a bit, especially on "o" "e" and "m" and "rn"
