Frontier was a half-baked Adventure with terribad pacing.

From a high-concept perspective, I did really like how the Digital World in that universe was based around railroads and trains. It brought back that fantasy-esque RPG world that Adventure/Digimon World 1 had by ripping it off, but whatever.

This is mostly because they treat the strength of digimon in xros wars as battle experience and age. Digimon change over time just like humans and its mentioned that Omegashoutmon the "evolution" of shoutmon is just a form of Shoutmon that he will become permanently in the future. Tactimon even mentions that it took him years to become what he was like. That is why there are no levels and it also stops the bullshit that happened with Digimon losing to other digimon that are 2 stages stronger. Though logic still applies in Digi xrossing that if you combine two digimon that happen to be powerful then they will become a digimon even more powerful.

In the xros wars manga they say Digi xrossing is just another form of bio merging using Dukemon as an example.
