The thing to remember is that the prisons talked about here are the 'reward' prisons - They're used to separate the well-behaved prisoners from the truly violent, dangerous-to-everyone types. Of course, THOSE prisons aren't nearly as photogenic, so they don't show those to the media.

You couldn't export to a country like the U.S. or even most other European countries for a thousand reasons. The first is that they couldn't afford it. The reason for the recidivism being so low probably has nothing to do with that particular prison's model - it's a classic correlation=/=causation. It's probably low in all their prisons. Because there's no reason to commit a crime - for them, a place like that would actually be a downgrade from the life they can get just by putting out a minimal effort to survive.

What's more, everyone in Scandavia is the same race. They haven't even really needed much anti-immigration shit till now because brown people don't like the cold. But the Muslim's are persistent, and now that their knocking at the gate like Hannibal this is just the kind of shit I'd expect to happen.

Ultimately, you can't completely alter human nature, no matter how enlightened you make your society. The fact is the Scandinavians were never really that liberal to begin with - they just liked the idea of liberalism. They like the idea that Nora from The Doll House should be able to leave her kids because her husband was a dick, but only because they never considered that, even if they paid for those kids college and medical supply, the lack of a mother might fuck them up. Housing is fairly cheap (compared to wages) if you are willing to commute, but extremely expensive in towns.

Internet is not quite on par with sweden yet, but we're getting there. 10mbps++ is fairly stanard even if you live out on a farm. We're located a little ways off the center of europe, so ping times aren't that great, but great compared to australia. Easily <100ms to most european countries.

Note: DO NOT live in central Oslo. Extremely high drug rates, thus everything that's associated with that as well. Do your research, cities like Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger etc. are much better.

Norway is basically a living example that liberal progressive policies work.

USA justice/punishment system stems from the most basic and barbaric of human emotions, and a need to see revenge and punishment done. That's why they still have things as barbaric as the death penalty. That's why the USA has the largest prison population in the world, and why millions of Americans are in jail and will never know anything else.

Meanwhile in Norway, those who commit crimes are rehabilitated and the vast majority go on to become productive members of society
