I went into this movie expecting overrated, overhyped shit.

What I got was an amazing cinematic experience that I don't think I'll ever forget. Holy shit the deep intellectual undertones in this game are unreal. The grace that Katsuragi has, and yet cold instincts. The fighting choreography is awe-inspirding, jaw-dropping..

    It's just.
    A.
    Good.
    Movie.

    How's the second (Innocence)?

Innocence is significantly different. There's a mix of opinions concerning it. Personally, I hated it, even though I liked the first. The series is much better.

Does the series keep the same level of atmosphere and (for lack of a better word) deepness?

No. Series are more like CSI, but still good.

Innocence is shit. It made little sense and is super boring 99% of the time.

Series is in no way CSI. It's pretty consistent with the movie. You're very likely to enjoy it.

Let me ask you something, did you enjoy Blade Runner? If so, then you'll like Innocence. Atmospherically they're similar, very 'noir' feeling. The pace is slower than the first Ghost in the Shell (and that's pretty slow paced indeed) but if your attention span can handle it then you should have no problem. Also, Innocence waxes philosophical much more than in the first movie, especially with the literary quotes between Batou and Togusa. The action scenes are similar to the first movie in that they are very sparse, but that sparseness actually serves to highlight the action. The animation, especially the CG, is very well done. I for one enjoyed it, but I can see how a member of the Transformers-damaged generation would not...it is very slow paced indeed.

Innocence is pretty but the story could have been jammed into a single episode of Stand Alone Complex.

Eh, it can't be helped. The sweeping CG shots of the town Bato and Togusa land on were beautiful.

And the climax alone is quite incredible.

    Thanks for this reply.

My version has very weird stereo audio. Most if not all of the voices appear to be in the right ear...

Is this for a purpose or is it a problem with my copy?

Not the guy you were answering to, but i agree with him, GiTS SAC is nothing like CSI, but don't expect the same atmosphere as the first movie, it was unique imo. Even the second film made by the same team don't have the same ambiance (and imo is shitty but it's just my opinion). Still, the series are very good. Like, really. Solid state society too.

Prepare yourself for some badass action scene.

don't forget Yoko Kanno's awesome music.

GITS:SAC is a very good series. 2nd Gig is good as well. Solid State Society is a bit different, but still pretty good.
    >> Anonymous 07/05/11(Tue)14:13 No.51533587
GITS:Innocence is not the first movie, nor is it stand alone complex or the manga.

It's gorgeous, stunning to look at even despite the somewhat dated CG in parts, with Mamoru Oshii's incredible cinematography and detail.

Its deep. Its like DEEPfag fetish material. The overt discussions about philosophy and the nature of existence weave into the narrative and structure like themes in a symphonic work. The characters and plot and themes are nested and interrelated in subtle and fascinating ways that are only really revealed in multiple viewings.

Its slow. At times, the film grinds to a halt in order to show the viewer how clever and beautiful it is. It's flawed, its exhausting, its pretentious and maybe even silly. It's characters prattle on about sentience and being, sometimes only existing as a mouthpiece for an idea.

Its a fucking masterpiece. There isn't anything like it out there. Its a truly special film that has a bad reputation for its flaws. I love it, but I can only say that you should approach it with an open mind and take it for what it is.

Don't worry about it she's stil the same Major. Remember they can swap their entire bodies heck she could put herself into a male body if she wanted (and Batou kept pushing her to do it)

It also helps if you know that the series is a prequal to the movies and at some point (not saying when) her body you have picutred has its head blown clean off

Ah, so it is a prequel? I thought it was an alternative timeline.
