Just as a true muslim has to go to Mecca once in their lifetime, a true anime fan must visit Akihabara.

In a few days it will be my turn, any suggestions on what to do/see/buy, /a/?

    Pic somewhat related.

That's just the weeaboo in you talking. Anyway, buy some figures, posters and a dakimakura of your waifu if you don't already have it I guess.

Be observant and check small shops. They have a tendency to surprise. And if you are travelling with someone, stock up on beers. Every time you see a gaijin weabboo, drink. My brother and I got drunk within 20 mins.

Go to a meido cafe, gundam cafe and tsundere cafe.
Spend an afternoon at the arcade.
Take a shit ton of pictures.
    Eat local food only.
Act polite. No yelling in public, polluting, etc.
    Have a great time OP.

What are the odds If I go there to find a doujin from a obscure anime that is only 4 years old? Will it be in some shop somewhere?

Also, OP if you don't get a dakimkura of your waifu, I'll be disapoint

I was in Japan and Akihabara few months ago and I saw exactly three other gaijins on average each day I went there. Perhaps situation has changed again, but post-quake months had barely any foreigners around.

Anyway, Akihabara's pretty incredible place. If there's one thing I recommend it's to check out all second-hand shops. In particular there's this chain TRADERS.

You'll be able to make some of the best weeaboo purchases of your life there. Japanese take very good care of their stuff. I bought BDs that were as good as new (even film strips etc. were in top notch condition, nothing was missing) and in half price you'd have to pay for that shit if you buy it new.

Old games, animu, CDs etc. are worth buying there. Of course you should also visit Mandarake.

Also, go crazy at Toranoana (just make sure you enter the right building. Fujoshi Toranoana is scary) and get them doujinshi.
    >> Anonymous 06/28/11(Tue)05:35 No.51223282
I don't want to support Japan. Granted I drive one of their cars, and probably without knowing use some of their products. I only download anime and I only purchase Dakimakuras that were printed and made in Hong Kong. I just can't see myself giving them so much money for tourism. Pearl Harbor man... Laugh all you want. Also they look down on us. Then when we give them relief from the tsunami they say yay American allies then a split second later go back to hating our guts. To hell with them. Come meet us half way for once in your pathetic countries life and maybe I will consider it. Also keep catching that whale so you can sell it to my friends in Singapore so I can eat culinary delicacy next time I am there for a trade show.

AKIBA?! A good way to buying figures cheap is going to the smaller shops that offer second hand purchases.
I bought 2 TTGL figmas and a Fate/Stay night revoltech of Saber in the amazing price of 2800 yen TOTAL! and they're brand freaking new (except the saber figure had no stand so I bought a shitty gashapon and just took the stand and it somehow fits)
Also - if you're planning on going to maid cafes (recommended) you should either reserve a place or go to the smaller ones because on weekends and holidays there are lines that you can spend more than an hour waiting there.
Also - there are 2 arcades at the end of the main street (one is ATARIYA the second I forgot it's name) - I could easily spend an entire day just on those 2 arcades. calculate your time wisely and try to see as many shops as possible.
And hit the smaller streets too - there are awesome bargins for electricity and games and H-figures in some of them.
Also look for the figure manufecturers showcase stores (but don't buy there - it's ridiculously expensive - but you can take photos all you want of some rare figures)
    ENJOY

    Forgot to mention
There's a KFC restuarant there that has a statue of the colonel and they always dress him up with some crazy outfit
It's pretty famous resturant it was featured in lots of J-dramas - it's recommanded to eat there once, and even if you don't eat go there once in the evening, go to the second floor and see all the otakus playing their PSPs and DSs over the wifi - it's quite a sight
Also - they have the best toilet I'd ever sat on in my entire trip to japan

Last time I went to Japan was 2008. I planned a grand weeaboo trip with my mates, but the tsunami hit two days before we have a chance to submit our visa proposals. They closed visa applications so we scrapped that idea, which is a shame. We even planned a Japanese highschool-esque Kyoto trip

    32. I don't think that makes much of a difference. I wouldn't expect the 18 year olds of today to not have a grudge against Muslims just because they don't remember 9/11. Events like these are long term, society changing landmarks in our countries history. Its not something you just brush under the rug at the next cleaning. Especially when they have done only mediocre things to promote goodwill between our countries. Again... Government aside, even now, they despise us.

In a week I pretty much went all over it and no, there weren't many gaijins around. Shit, I was ambushed by television crew (you probably know what I mean, it's dangerous to be gaijin there) as they needed foreigners for interview and apparently I was pretty much the only one they had seen that day (a moment later I'd see big fat black guy though)

I don't doubt there're usually many foreigners in Akihabara but even my friend who lived in Tokyo said there were unusually few foreigners in Tokyo at that time anyway.

To a degree the United States is still wary of all foreign countries even England. They have at least supported us the last hundred years or so and generally our ties are strong. I wasn't saying its something we can never forgive... Wounds can be mended but Japan has done close to $hit since WW2. England on the other hand has committed troops to our war effort and various other things that helped forge a fairly solid and close ally.
