DN didn't get hate because of its popularity, but due to its second half and its ending.

Gundam SEED is one of the worst Gundams, but it was bearable until Destiny.

Code Geass was genuinely liked in /a/, but the second season was horrible.

FMA, FMP and Diebuster are not hated in /a/.

GL got hated not due popularity, but due to the annoying as fuck, holier-than-thou fans that plagued /a/ during 2007.

a couple of those shows didn't even go for more than 13 weeks.

It's not just hipsterism, it's its inverse, bandwagonism, and their ugly cousins, trolling and over-hyping. Some of those shows were just bad but inexplicably popular and folks hating it for the wrong reasons worked out for the best. Some of them were hailed as the Super Magic Jesusbuddha of anime and/or got trolled to hell and back, deserving neither, but both of which mess with a show's popularity.

There have always been people who have shit on those shows. You really can't remember people bitching about Madoka and Panty and Stocking as they aired?
