Most movies are rated fucking R 18+ in the US but only MA 15+ here. I can think of 300 and The King's speech off the top of my head. Our system is more lenient than most.

Also these weird ratings can be attributed to the time they were rated. Se7en and Boondock saints are both R rated. Even though they're barely explicit compared to some MA 15+ films today. It was just a different time. Video games are a whole different story however.
