I don't think they could have. The only advantage Russia had was that they outnumbered everyone, even after the war, and that the climate and size of it makes it hard to attack.

The skill of the troops themselves and the quality of leadership was below shit-tier thanks to Stalin's purges, where he killed anyone capable of actually doing anything.

One of my favourite Red Army Operations.

A massive pincer assault that captured a land the size of Western Europe with minimal casualties.

The Operation was perfect.

A theater-sized General Staff, custom made divisions for the diverse terrain and experienced veterans straight from the Western Front. Even the US Marines had to rest. The Soviets kept going and got stronger.

And finally, it achieved complete surprise. If they had pulled that off in 1943, Japs would have fled the Pacific with their tails between their legs.

Hopefully, we'll get a Sabaton song about this. The Battle of Nomohan is worth a mention too.
