do people keep complaining about the ads? Do they think they're making
some kind of statement? For fuck's sake, it's as if they think we don't
already realise there's product placement. As if this shit that's
clearly stated in the show's description has gone completely over our
heads and is turning us into mindless sheep.
We know it's there.
It's shameless. We know it's shameless. Sunrise knows it's shameless.
Sunrise knows we know it's shameless. That's the fucking point. I'll be
honest the product placement left a bad taste in my mouth initially, by
which I mean the first five minutes. Then I got over it because a)
the product placement plays a part in the show's main theme of
commercialization (because seriously, if random people in the world
started gaining superpowers right now, this is exactly what would
happen) b) built upon this foundation of commercialization is what
has so far been a very clever deconstruction, with likable characters
and entertaining episodes. It has substance.
If any of you are
put off watching just because of the product placement, please just give
it a chance. You won't disappointed (or if you are disappointed, the
DRINK PEPSI BUY IPHONES FROM SOFTBANK won't be your reason) |
