here you go /a/, a new guide for setting up mpc-hc to not suck for those of you with shitty machines

those with better machines can just turn on evr-cp or install madvr to improve playback quality

and here are some playback results

At least you're trying to help.

    http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-using-compute-unified-device-architecture-cuda/

For best visual quality (nvidia cards only)

that is basically my setup now, only a few changes, like no madvr because at this stage its missing things i want

and that person updates their page pretty often, i got the latest ffdshow tryouts build i could for my guide this morning and its already updated to a newer one

i was aiming more at low spec, full compatible playback with this guide though

mpc-hc + haali, 1080p playback on a 2GHz single core celeron with no gpu acceleration support, i dont know if VLC can manage that but i was impressed
even i wasnt expecting it to work that well

    >2GB RAM
You call that shitty? Try 256 mb.
    >> Bitches & !Whores/8sg 04/09/11(Sat)09:14 No.48001503
    >>48001431
    you actually have 256mb ram?

jesus, you could buy a better laptop than mine for under $300, i got it for like 600nzd after redemption two years ago or more
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:15 No.48001527
i prefer to set the adjustment for the video player (mplayer) at the terminal (linux) . convinient
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:18 No.48001584
Now I can spend hundreds of dollars buying useless animu merchandise instead of upgrading my celeron!

Not a laptop, regular PC. And I'm a poor student, I've got other priorities.

On the other hand, at my parents' house there's a PC with 1.6 GHz CPU and 1 GB RAM which plays everything fine with no need for special setup, so unless your advice is for the really shitty computers I don't see the point of this thread.

    >74% CPU on a 1080p video.

All this can be solved by getting a processor that isn't shitty.
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:21 No.48001684
I'm looking for the good pc guide. Anyone got it? It was posted a while ago.

anything with at least 4 cores, 4GB of ram and a recent graphics card

    >>48001668
true, but for some people upgrading isnt an option
my main computer has quad core, 8GB ram and a gtx275
with the guide in >>48001184 i also have about ~10% cpu usage while watching 1080p

    >>48001662
as far as i am concerned, with the settings in my guide the playback would be about as efficient as possible so that if the OS or another app decides to fuck around while you are watching it doesnt affect playback

i dont know what your processor is like but if you see my second image post mpc-hc was only using about 66MB ram while playing back 720p, so it may fill your requirements anyway
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:30 No.48001922
So this is for improving performance and doesn't affect video quality in any way correct?
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:30 No.48001945
    >5 year old laptop
    >upgraded to 2GB RAM
    >some shitty dual core processor
    >running vista, tuned as best I could knowing nothing about computers (got rid of that trustedinstaller ect)
    >can watch anime have a browser and winamp open all at the same time and it still runs smooth

    feels ok man
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:32 No.48001986
I have 512mb of RAM and 720p plays fine. I thought that if you don't have a brick it'll probably play at the very least 480p if not 720p.

    >>48001922
you may or may not notice a quality difference, that will depend on the individual

however, it is not the best quality settings available even with mpc-hc stand alone, higher quality requires more CPU time though
    >> Bitches & !Whores/8sg 04/09/11(Sat)09:35 No.48002065
    >>48001986
its usually not RAM thats the issue, even with 1080p playback i rarely see mpc-hc around the 200MB mark on my desktop

the biggest contenders are CPU and video card, including video ram
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:35 No.48002068
    >>48002019

Would you happen to have a guide of sorts for improving video quality in a similar fashion? My computer isn't pure shit, though it's aging a bit now.
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:36 No.48002111
    Aww yeah nice job OP.
    Although I do CCCP+Upgraded MPC-HC+CoreAVC.

My computer is quite nice though:
    i7 CPU 930
    6GB of RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
    Runin' on Windows 7.

if you dont have a graphics card suitable for madvr (or dont want to use it yet) then just turn on evr-cp and set the resizer to bicubic a -1.00

if you are using or can use coreavc, or ffdshow video decoder then you can set up the raw video filter as in
    http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-using-compute-unified-device-architecture-cuda/
    to further improve image quality

its possible then to go further and use avisynth to do even more postprocessing, but i havent ventured that far yet
    >> Anonymous 04/09/11(Sat)09:44 No.48002302
    >>48002209

I might be wrong since I only read up a certain part, but the process mentioned in the link works only with Nvidia cards correct? If so, I'm SOL.
