There is hope. Remember that a person with good taste in anime know how to hide their powerlevel the same way as you do. It's really hard to find out about others powerlevel but I've noticed that if a person is into video games and sci-fi/fantasy books there is a big chance that he/she watched good shows.

I hate those threads. They always made me realise that I can't talk about anime anywhere but /a/. Sometimes I even think of making an account on some shitty anime forum, but as I see a whole other section dedicated to Naruto I quickly drop this idea.

I had an anime club in my school. I was a freshman or a sophmore (my school fucked around with the grades) and not yet immersed in the anime world; hell, I caught Code Geass R1 mid-season, and the place was filled with all these fags. I mean, there was one hot chick in the room, and she left after the dumb bitch caught on that it wasn't the newspaper club.

Every other girl were landwhales with Naruto headbands wrapped around their neckflabs. All the guys were skinny ass mofos or fatties, and they were either playing Yu-Gi-Oh or forcing the teacher to play Naruto AMVs.

I left the room about an hour early and joined the Newspaper club, of which was very successful and I was praised highly for my literary skills by the teacher. So yeah, I never watched any of the anime they liked; they never knew any beyond the Big Three.

i went to one once, as usual most of the people were narutards. this one really annoying girl approached me and was telling me how much she loved yaoi and what not, now I'm not exactly the most socially adept person but I'm fairly certain that it is not tact to start talking about this crap to strangers you just met. There was this one quite guy I recognized from one of my engineering classes, there was some common shows we liked like hajime no ippo and planetes and even played touhou but he just wasn't a talker, he would really only give me close ended responses. I'm no social butterfly myself but I at least try dammit.
so basically my experience was, those who are sociable in the anime club where insufferable because of their annoying faggotry. and those who weren't sociable were insufferable in their unsociability.
