You are right. To put things into perspective they said something like "we would like to create a slice-of-life spinoff". I don´t see how that could ever work out, since the story is supposed to end with some big bang. At least that´s what I expect from the show. But maybe we will get a happy end after all and next season will be a whole season of "happily ever after" crap.

Unless a tsunami hits, I wouldn't worry too much about that new quake. They issued a similar warning for a slightly smaller quake a few weeks ago and nothing happened.
