Oh man, this one. I liked the whole series overall but that was the one episode where they hit you with a solid surprise (him not turning into an animal after the shot). The moment where he accepts things as they should be and reverts to his "real self" was pretty fucking touching, which is rare for anime.

I've been rewatching it, it's as good or better the second time. I'm noticing things I didn't the first time, and characters from later episodes show up in earlier episodes.

This reminds me I never finished this series, even though I enjoyed it.

The episode with the old guy that was in denial about his age was by far the best episode. The scene during the baseball game in which he finally accepts that it's time to move on is very fucking amazing.

To me, it was more the animation style fitting with the source material. Shaft is the other way around, and it kind of ruins some of the shows they work on.
