Make it free to generate fans. However distribute it in a bad quality.

Make money off of TV broadcasts and sell DVDs of the show in high quality, with extra features, added scenes, and missing episodes. Make these DVDs cheap so everyone will buy them. Also, distribute better episodes digitally if people don't want physical copies.
    >> Anonymous 01/29/11(Sat)22:18 No.45355707
I love how these companies make us out to be such bad guys. All we want is a product of good quality, equal to what our Japanese equivalents are getting at a quick and efficient pace. This includes art books, character CDs, and figures bundled with their anime. All they need to do to succeed is actually listen to their possible customers.

Most legal streams are offered for free. Also GONZO already tried the pay-whatever-you-want-amount-per-episode download with Blassreiter and Tower of Druaga a few years back. I don't think it was very successful because they didn't offer it again.

Theoretically, it can. You could show it only in theater, and strip search people at the entrance to make sure they don't record it. The problem is finding a balance between security and availability.

What would I do? I wouldn't try to eliminate pirating all together, since that's a waste of time. Rather, I would make the product as easy to buy as possible. Instead of just Blu-Ray's that come out months later, I would sell each episode online in (at least) 1080p, before or during the TV broadcast. Each episode would cost 5-10 dollars.

I don't know if this would make the anime more profitable, it depends on the quality of the show and what fans want to do.

    >All we want is a product of good quality, equal to what our Japanese equivalents are getting at a quick and efficient pace.

But r1 companies are getting faster at their releases. A few years ago it was common to have to wait 2-3 years for a title to come out. Nowadays they can get a title out within a a year to a year and a half after they announce the acquisition.

    >This includes art books, character CDs, and figures bundled with their anime

Companies already tried the limited edition approach with a lot of titles but it's been fairly unsuccessful.

Why would I wait for BD of that series to be brought over here when I can just download the BD rips for free a year before (or ever) America gets them? Gather the IP address of anyone who torrents your animes. Then, the next logical step is to sue them. Instead, travel to their homes and use a gun to kill them. Now, you're probably thinking, "But that many bullets would be fairly expensive." Just take the person's money after shooting them. They won't need it.

Actually, skip the first step and just shoot people for their money. Much easier than this anime business nonsense.

So if I want a standard 12 episode series DTO I would have to pay at least $60? Most anime blu ray don't even cost that much, and you get the physical product.

Also Sony already tried that as a rental service for Xam'd in HD but people would just rip the episodes and upload them to torrent sites.

Publish it on Youtube. Only have a low(ish) quality version on there. (Maybe with a big fat watermark, though that's a bit insulting, so probably not)

When the DVDs/BDs are released, release them with subtitles in multiple languages and lots of cool extras
(cool extras. Not shit extras, like trailers for completely unrelated shows)

Of course that will still get pirated, so also merchandise the fuck out of it, and as a studio, work hard to produce cool, different, challenging anime every once in a while rather than producing something shit to fill up a slot every season (though that's probably an unrealistic thing to be able to claim to do. I dunno though, Gainax manage it)
