I went to an anime club for about a year. We actually watched decent stuff.

There were about 50 members the first day, but it rapidly depleted as it was clear naruto was not being shown. The narutards set up a "rival" club which kept the shit out.

I miss those days as it was the only time in my life I had friends who were similar, but not so socially awkward that I was horrified being around them.

It was also the only time in my life that I had a stable weekly social event that didn't involve alcohol.

I remember my high school's anime club. I've always been a buyfag so they just invited me for DVDs and gave me cake and stuff for attending. Sure it was weeb central, but I got some damn godly cake. The chick who used to make the cakes now owns a wedding cake shop. I don't know if she's still a weeb, though.

actually, the crew saved whatever dignity my anime club had. Before it was watching grating dubs of CCS and Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, plus attending MIT's anime club for whatever reason. Which was just as bad considering they may have the bigger anime library then, but forgot the concept of bathing. So we spruced it up, varied the schedule, made it more inviting and embraced diversity. Didn't really attend depending on what they watched as they soon learned most of the mainstream crap you can get on cable anyway. So they put stuff that may put people off but after 2-3 eps, was very watch worthy. Certainly how I found out about how awesome Hunter X Hunter was.

The anime club at my university was full of squares, some of whom didn't even drink. I was told by many that swearing made them 'uncomfortable.' We couldn't watch bootleg anime during the meetings, fucking rules Nazis. As though a school official would be caught dead dropping in on a meeting of the anime club, much less auditing the legal ownership of the anime we watching. All the black guys sat together and seemed to be the most normal of anyone there. No one was funny, everyone was dead serious. Slightly obsucre anime was fucking arcane to those twats.

I once spent a year fixing up my grades for stuff I'd been absent from. At the same time, I sort of was an assistant to some of the teachers. One of the people I met there was a girl who was studying to become a teacher. Turned out that she was a big anime fan as well. She mostly liked Studio Ghibli stuff. She also said she had worn a catgirl stuff before for some presentation. Aside from the catgirl stuff, she was actually quite smart and not awkward. She wasn't fat either; she was actually pretty small and about a 9/10 going by my memory. I met her once or twice after that, and she's still cool. Haven't seen her in a year or two by now, though.

Of course, /a/ would hate her simply because she had a boyfriend. I never met him, so I couldn't say whether he was a a good guy or an asshole.

Teachers are fucking dumb if they think group work is neccessary to learn real life skills. There's a huge difference between being forced to work for 8 hours a week with set time to work on the project and having your own time and a set date to work on a project. Also. I usually don't give a fuck till a week before it's due, there's no point otherwise. Group projects suck. I had a project with people in one of my math classes and ended up having to man up and lead the presentation because none of us could present. Take note, I am gravely terrified of standing in front of people, let alone talking.

Dropped out of college entirely? Luckily, there's a third party website for my uni where people put up comments about the class and the professor. I was able to choose the easy professors in the classes that I could and see if there are comments about there having group projects or not. When I was a freshman, I dropped (within time to drop without "w") a class after knowing there was group work in the syllabus. I'm a senior now and I find group work to be great. Very crucial in tackling hard problems.

So, just drop the class and continue going to school. After a while, you'll feel more accustomed and be okay with it.

On topic, there was only a Japanese culture appreciation club and I don't know how to feel about that.

I had to do a speech in a western civ class over the Industrial Revolution. I had pretty much put off all of my research and stuff until the last week of the semester (it was a semester long research project). It had to go on for 10 minutes, and I had never actually done a big presentation like that. To add onto it we were required to wear suits or we lost 10% of our grade or something like that, and I didn't own a suit and wasn't going to buy/rent one for some 10 minute presentation. I figured other people would do the same.
    >everyone except me showed up with a suit.
    >> Anonymous 01/28/11(Fri)21:41 No.45311487
    >>45311465
    continued

So I was the only person in class giving my presentation in everyday clothing added on to my already really bad social anxiety.
About a minute into it I was already mumbling and slurring words and feeling light headed and wanting to just duck down and hide behind the podium. I already felt the professor didn't like me because he always gave me this weird glare in class even though I never did anything but sit and take notes. It was fucking horrible. I went to my question session I was supposed to have about 3 minutes in and people were asking me questions that I knew the answer to but couldn't recall because I was so nervous, so I would fumble through my notes and try to compose myself, but never quite did, always answering with an extremely shaky voice, probably mumbling and nothing coming out quite right.

At 5 minutes in I guessed a half hour had passed and ended it before I passed out.

Luckily everyones attention was diverted from me because the next guy who went up had decided to his presentation over nazi occultism and somehow went on a rant about modern day conspiracies and aliens and stuff and the third reich and Hitler living in the Hollow earth, the room felt more nervous during that then my whole speech, just because everyone was trying to keep from laughing at some of the stuff he was saying, even the professor was fighting back laughter, and asking weird questions just to fuel it.

I was bored in high school so I decided I'd give the anime club a shot.

Walk in first day, showing 08th MS Team, there's one fat weeaboo that everyone ignored and everyone else was pretty chill.

We'd go to cons, no one really cosplayed, the fattie left about 2 weeks after I joined.

After showings, we'd discuss what we watched, sometimes we'd get loldeep about it, but it was all good fun.

    I enjoyed it honestly.

I'm sorry to read all these horrible stories.

My high school anime club wasn't actually that bad.

We had a communal library type thing set up where you could bring in graphic novels and lend them out to people.

And the anime we watched were great; that was the first time I saw Berserk and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

There are quite a few guys with respectable powerleves there. I don't understand how they can be satisfied just watching tv series they would have already seen 3 months ago.

Anime clubs should show it's members things they wouldn't see otherwise. Trawl through the awesome OVAs from the 80s and 90s , watch hilarious Manga Entertainment dubs and movies.

I hated our club advisor and every day I was there at anime club in high school, I took great pleasure in the fact that our club advisor hated me, yet I still continued to attend and make loud, extremely rude commentary on the shit that they watched. He needed to stop being a faggot anyway.

Imagine his joy when my friends and I visited again after I graduated.

To be fair, Chiaki and Makoto's romance in The Girl who Leapt Through Time was a little forced.

WHY DIDNT YOU TALK TO HER?!

Also, be honest with yourselves. It's not they have shitty tastes or are even annoying waps. You're too afraid to even get to know the people in the clubs in the first place so you'll never know if they're annoying weaboos or not.

Why not introduce them to some better shows and get to know some of them first?

Yeah, I mad. Because I see a little of myself in all these posts and I regret not networking or getting out of my shell more now that I'm done with school- I beg all of you, get your priorities straight. I've been in that situation where a cute girl sat by me and I didn't act. Yeah, the first time you'll probably fuck it up and it will be awkward but the next time you'll have experience to initiate a conversation with a girl.

    I'm done. Good night /a/

    Not really 'anime club' related.
    >Used to work at a DVD/music store/cafe, similar to Borders.
The only place in the town that sold anime and manga, pretty well stocked too.
    >Massive Narutard population.
    >Noticed a increase in the number of geeky looking people vistiting the store.
    >They start using the cafe area as a hangout while they read manga.
    >They rarely order anything from the cafe.
    >There are couches you can read at, tables are for customers.
    >One of the cafe staff ask them to order something or leave.
    >I'm pretty sure he was joking or retarded, but one of the idiots yelled some no-juitsu shit and kicked a chair.
    >Owner of store grabbed him by the collar and dragged his ass out before calling mall security.
    >mfw I went back to stacking shelves.

I joined my college's anime club, but I didn't go to a lot of meetings. I would post to their facebook page suggestions for anime, and we'd vote and if they chose shit tier anime, I didn't show up. If they voted for good stuff I'd show up with homemade snacks and enjoy myself.
The others quickly learned to vote in favor for my suggestions because it was a guaranteed good time. lol.
I quit the club because the president was a bitch ass whore and she always pick fights with me because I was an "Anime Snob" and she always told me to stop being "That Guy."
She got real nasty one week, when I showed up and I was supposed to bring in the winning anime (Precure or something like that, I wasn't thrilled but I wanted to watch it anyway), for us to watch and the files were corrupt and we couldn't watch it, so I suggested that we watch some good old fashioned Mobile Suit Gundam. Majority agreed and so I played it, we got half way through the opening theme when this bitch unplugged the HDMI from the projector and said she was sick of "Old, retarded, outdated, useless anime"

I said nothing but gathered my stuff and left, and a lot of people followed me out.
Now we meet at my house once a week for anime night, and somehow we go a D&D night going too and sometimes they just show up and we wind up playing Monopoly or Uno while anime plays in the background.
The group shrank to about 7, but we are having more fun than we ever did at the club.

She's not really blind. Not physically. She got it through PTSD.

I forget the term for this kind of disorder.
