About 2 years ago I worked in a kitchen at a diner, helping the main chef.

Spent the longest time all formal and shit, always called him Sir and barely spoke outside of necessary communication. Knew next to nothing about the guy.

One day I drop a pair of grill tongs behind the stainless steal heads, he see's me trying to fish them out and asks what I'm doing. I Sort of muttered "Now I've lost it" to myself without really thinking.

His immediate response "I know I can grill"

to which, after a moment, I replied "The tongs are just beyond the grate".

I guess you could consider Kiraboshi not be the nuclear option. You can drop hints with "Now I've lost it" and "it can't be helped" and all manner of other things, but if you absolutely know the persons powerlevel, and they don't take a hint, confronting them with kiraboshi is basically a more hipsterish way of outright saying "I like anime and manga and browse /a/, what about you?"
