I wouldn't find it that far-fetched that the ending is both a self-ware joke AND a potential lead-up to a second season.

I mean, think about it; this show was never remotely serious... but still had a story and some continuity to it. there was always clear foreshadowing and the only episode that didn't fit in the least was the zombie one. it's just that virtually every plot development was also a silly joke; Brief's dick being the key to unleashing the power of a gigantic dick-ghost that would help a bondage freak demon take over the world is a way of advancing the story... but you couldn't call it a serious plot point with a straight face.

The only thing that I wish they did differently was the fight between these two.

I wish they kept the fight going longer, or at least depicted them continue to duke it out after Chuck dropped off the Angels.
