    Dear /a/,
I have become so exhausted from my new (and first) job as of late to the point where I have forgotten about watching a new episode of the one and only show I was consistently following for a while now, Katanagatari.

Typically, I work from 12 noon to 8pm every day. I wake up around 10 or 11 every day (barely if I worked the previous day) and come home completely exhausted and unwilling to do practically anything in the evening besides the essential cooking and laundry.

This job has feels like it's destroying my spirit or soul or self image or something... I'm losing the will to do the fun things I used to because I'm so god damned tired.

So, suggestion of quitting my job aside (as I need the money right now and have absolutely no other options) I wanted to know what other working /a/nons that suffer the daily grind would suggest as to how to get my anime viewings back on a normal cycle. I've got about 4 or 5 shows I'm about 4-5 weeks behind on and again, little time in the morning or evening to do anything. I get 2 days off a week (sometimes less if my coworker bitches about having to close on his own...) and often sleep in until 1 or 3 pm the days I have off. Tell me how to use that time for getting caught up on my viewings.

tl;dr work is destroying me on the inside and I miss watching anime on a regular basis, wat do?

Cut down your 4chan time and use it for anime instead?
Though if you're tired to the point where you don't even want to watch anime anymore, it's best not to force yourself. The experience would not be too enjoyable.

Are you doing labor work of any sorts?

preoccupy yourself and hype yourself up for the things you have to look forward to after finishing work. even if you're kidding yourself to an extent, a bit of delusion helps.

might also make work more bearable

You gotta plan ahead. My job kicks my ass too (delivery from 8AM-8PM 3 days so far this week). When you get home, make a little schedule in your head and stick to it. I give myself time to shower, a little time for dinner, and then assume I'll watch 2 or 3 episodes of whatever I'm watching at the time. After that I'll read or vidya or sleep if I'm really dead. Got to stick to that schedule, though.
    >> Anonymous 11/26/10(Fri)02:21 No.42859852
Time, OP. I don't know how long it's been since you started working, but just give it some time. Once it becomes a routine to go to work and back, you'll find yourself enjoying your hobbies again. And hey, there's always paid vacation/holidays/weekends.

Pretty much, long story short, we opened recently with half of the applied workers never showing up and people quitting sporadically every so often after that. So everyone's working more hours than they really want... I am considering maybe just 'tuning out' from anime for a while and just saving and marathon a bunch of shit when I've gotten further along in my education and things get more financially stable for me.

    >>42859778
...1-2 am or so, depends. I've contemplated reverting to my 'in bed by 11-12, up by 8-9 routine to give myself an extra hour or two in the morning but I've been less willing to do such a thing as of late...

    >>42859791
I'll see about giving this a try, maybe making a schedule and committing to it and avoiding as many unnecessary alterations as possible will let me set aside a specific half hour or hour every night to get caught up.

    >>42859852
Yeah, this is pretty much my problem. People applying to fill the void for the asshole deserters that applied and never came or quit after the first week are trickling in slowly... But the position I work doesn't have as many as it could use. We've got 4-6 people as 'consistent' working whereas most other groups have 8-14. If we could get two more 'confirmed' workers in the area I'm associated, I could probably ask for fewer hours.

    >>42859877
Second person to suggest this, so I'll take this one a tad more seriously.

Any job that has you constantly on your feet and moving about is going to tire you out quicker than any job that has you sitting down. I find that the easiest way to make time for the things you enjoy is to make sure that they are done at the end of the day during that resting period. Don't adjust your sleep schedule to where you are doing things before you go to work. That will make the job seem all the more tiring as you go through the daily routine. Wake up with just enough time to get ready for and go to work. When you get home, you will usually have a little bit more energy to motivate to do the things you like to do. I have been doing it for four years now, with various different jobs and it has worked perfectly for me.

I'd prefer to not say WHERE or WHAT the place is, in case there would by some miraculous occurrence an anon who realized who it was (if they haven't already realized it) and thus went to the store the next day and blabbed about it.

    I've worked 4 different shifts now, 10-15, 12-8, 5 to close (12-2am, it depends) and 8-3.

All feel the same. It doesn't matter when I get up or go to bed. It's the 'amount' of time, not the time frame.

    >>42860635

I'm already getting a free ride through college thanks to me parent being a professor, why would I be a smartass about it?

I like being sarcastic but not a smartass. I've just discovered acting like the latter gets you no where and provides a pointless stroking of the ego, whereas the former provides a laugh or two for both yourself and those around you and makes drudging through the shit a little more tolerable.

That aside, this is why I'm getting my education back on track. I finally experienced a 'shit' job and have realized that spending hours working on a term paper would be 'heaven' compared to the shit I'm doing now.

I'll admit, I should probably bitch less but hey, I'm not complaining in a manner of 'wahhh, this is too hard, I hate my job and I should get money for doing nothing!', I'm just asking if anyone has any ideas for balancing out my free time better.

In my experience, it's better to start the day early and end it early. Getting up at 6 may be a bitch, but then you're done at 4, and have until 10 to do fuck whatever. (Assuming you need 8 hours of sleep like I do.)

If I start at noon and end at 8, yeah, I can probably afford to go to bed at 2 PM, but that causes all sorts of sleep problems if your bedroom has any access to natural light. And I find that utilizing pre-work/class hours is a lot harder than utilizing post-work/class hours for anything
    >> Anonymous 11/26/10(Fri)03:15 No.42861036
Can I assume you were rather stationary before getting this job? It takes a few days or whatever to get used to being up. And you'll have your occasional down-turns in energy. That's how it it is for me, given how out of sync my rhythms and work are.

But seeing how 3/4 people have suggested it now, I'm just gonna sleep till as late as I can (I.E. enough time to shower and eat breakfast) and use my evening time for getting caught up on my personal entertainment (anime not being the only one to suffer).

Alright, I'm off to sleep then. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Really, it's the easiest thing you can do. Wake up at 7, or 6. Hell, even 5. There's so much shit you can do with all that time you have if you wake up earlier. Plus, you'll feel MUCH BETTER during the day. Sleeping over 8 hours is a waste (unless it's an off day).

I also get withdrawal headaches as well. Used to be when I'd go for a month or two solid drinking mountain dew and then just switch or stop drinking a caffeine heavy soda altogether, I'd get like, multiple headaches the following weeks.

For some of us, that's just not possible without a massive effort. Our biological clocks are hardwired out of sync with what most people consider a normal day. For me, it's like 6 hours of permanent jet-lag.

Also OP, what time do you normally go to sleep?
