Hello, /a/. I have a question for the male anons here. If you were to meet a girl with a higher powerlevel then you, what would you think of her? Would you be intimidated? I know what you're probably thinking, but for the sake of this question allow yourself to believe that such a thing as a girl with a high powerlevel exists. It's no secret that guys traditionally don't like girls to be smarter than them, and girls will often play dumb to attract men. I'm wondering if the same applies for powerlevels.

I ask because a guy in my math class today started to make converstation with me, and he asked me what kind of hobbies I have. I don't really have anything else, so I told him that I'm a huge nerd for japanese animation. So, apparently, is he, and he started asking me about what I like. He said that he was a fan of One Piece, and that he likes things from studio BONES. So, of course, I start prattling on about the shows I like by BONES, what I think of their recent stuff, you know. But I don't think he recognized half of the shows I was talking about, and I felt like maybe I was being too, I don't know, talkative about it. With my female friends, comparing powerlevels has always been like a competition to me (and I always win) but I don't feel like that's appropriate with the opposite gender.

Sorry if this isn't an appropriate topic for this board. I half expect the mods to delete it. If you do, please don't ban me, it's only my first offense. But the people on /adv/ aren't the ones I want to ask.

TL;DR: Girls with higher powerlevels: good or bad?

    Kino always related.

Girls with high power levels are HOT. I mostly think of it in terms of areas of expertise; I'm good at a lot of different things, and I wouldn't mind dating someone who was better than me in one or more of those things. So high power levels are ok OP, you are probably an awesome person to date as long as the other person is not a total prick.

Guys who want women to be dumber than them, or inferior to them, really aren't worth the trouble. It's a very immature mindset.

While my view on this is in a very small minority, and quite possibly just me, I would have to say that a powerlevel higher than my own would be neutral in its own right, but good in that the person in question has more knowledge about that given topic. The part where I'm in the minority is where I find knowledge and good computational skills attractive. Very much more than any other aspect of a person. I don't feel belittled by someone being better than me, as I'm not petty, and I see humanity more as a collective whole rather than individuals. For someone to be good at all is something I approve of, and for someone to be interested in something I am to such a level that they're even better it than I am, is very much a plus.

This is to say, whether or not the girl's power level is higher or lower than mine is irrelevant. That she's interested in and dedicated to something I also am, however, is a good thing.
    >> Anonymous 10/25/10(Mon)21:22 No.41719095
Her powerlevel would factor very little into it, for me.

As an anon who actually experienced this pretty recently, it's a bit surreal. But in all honesty I think that has more to do with the fact that I never talk to ANYONE who has a notable power level in real life to begin with.

Intimidated? I'm not sure if that's the right word, but I felt casual as fuck after talking to her. On one hand I was happy that I hadn't fallen that far, on the other hand I was kind of annoyed that I really didn't know as much as I thought I did.

Is it good or bad? I don't really know how to answer that. I don't really see how it would be a bad thing I guess. Anyway, ask away OP, this is actually a subject I've given a lot of thought.

What society dictates is good or bad is irrelevant when not interacting with it. Because you, for example, say it's nothing to be proud of, does not make that so for the world, but rather just for you, and like-minded individuals.

I am proud to say that the other day I read up on mold in homes. I can now safely say that if I ever had a mold problem, I could very easily and efficiently take care of it. I think not knowing about how to fix mold problems is not something to be proud of. What do you say to that?

It's a good thing to me that a person has the same interests as I do.

I got into anime thanks to a girl who had a high power level. Now my life is ruined and all I do is troll /a/.

Most guys don't like competition or bragging from girls because most girls hate guys who aren't better than them at everything that isn't "girl stuff". It's universal enough that it's just an unconscious assumption in our society. Bitches and whores. There's no point in playing dumb unless you date dumbasses, but making a relationship competitive or a struggle for dominance is a fetish to some and a turnoff to most.

What sluts such as yourself typically do is take advantage of the fact that he hasn't seen stuff to watch it together. Then you have an excuse to cuddle up, or blush, or be all "OH SEMPAI YOUR DICK IS RELEASING SPERM DIRECTLY INTO MY WOMB bird.jpg".

Most female anime fans have a higher power level than me as is.

the only anime I've ever truly finished is Gurren Lagann, Eva and FLCL

I've watched a fuckton of DBZ though.

I only have one rule about dating people, I don't date fat chicks. I dated fat chicks exclusively (10 of them, had 20 fat female friends) in highschool because i had low self esteem. Never in my life have I been around such a collection of human misery. The fat anime fans are the worst though. The only time I'd date an anime fan was if she was skinny and she had never read twilight. (most fat chicks have)

Maybe you should try to find new interests other than anime and manga that are still as entertaining and easy to socialize about, like stand up comedy or whatever. As long as conversations are easy to start with and he tolerates your hobbies, than I don't see a problem, but maybe don't come out too strong, let it out little by little. Course my advice isn't really credible since I'm single and is based soley on assumption. Also, be cute, don't try to pull that kawaii desu things, I mean look cute, but don't act completely different. Also, polite sage for not anime.

just give the guy an opportunity to start talking about whatever bit hes got on the situation. fuck, if i met a girl that was interested in anything that wasnt yaoi or crying shoujo id be fucking ecstatic. give the guy a little bait once in a while in the conversation and if he still wants to talk, hell take it. ask him a question or something. unless youre absolutely horrendous (fyi this doesnt mean flat/chub/short) then he was probably just surprised you were that into it. besides, from the sounds of it you might have some self image issues and getting paranoid over that could fuck things over faster than any somewhat loner hobbies ever could

Just like all the great scientists and artisans who either lived in depression or in poverty and were only recognized after death or their inventions created even more problems. Take Einstein for example, lived off very little money for most of his life and even though he gave us most of our modern physics he also discovered nuclear weapons which will probably be the reason for our extinction if nothing else.

I bet they think that's better than being a cynical fag that refuses to acknowledge the little moments of happiness that ANYONE can and does have in their lives.

Being you is already being part of the problem. You're a functional human being, and already had that knowledge bestowed upon you (even if it was by yourself, your conscience is to be thanked for that). So killing yourself won't solve it either.

Unless you find a way to live by without having any conscience whatsoever, all you can do is enjoy your stay as you can. Even if your conscience doesn't, the very process of staying alive will satisfy your body, which is something so integral to you that you can't say it's not a part of you(r conscience).

I actually prefer girls who are smarter than me, because normally all I ever see are smart girls, or super fucking dumb bitch sluts.

The smart girls normally have no interest in me what so ever, and never share any of my interests. The one who did friend zoned me and went out with a guy I knew.

So no, I would have no problem with it. I would have a girl who would be able to give me reliable recommendations that I could talk to about anime and such. It would be awesome.
