  • 4chan turns 7 years old today—October 1, 2003-2010.

To celebrate this occasion, I'm chatting on AIM as "MOOTCHAT".
    OR moot@4chan.org I guess!
And The Social Network comes out today. Concidence? I THINK NOT.

Ever17 was pretty weak in the beginning especially. The only one of the 4 main routes that was really good was Tsugumi's. The ending made up for it all, though.

Then at the same time Remember11 was the opposite. As far as the overall story goes it was stronger than Ever17, but it kind of fell apart at the end and left a bunch of stuff ambiguous. I can't help but think it was missing an entire route or something, although I couldn't help but enjoy the fuck out of reading it.

Not to insult historians in this thread, but you're going to get bored and lose interest if nothing exciting occurs after a certain point of time, which happened to me.

The other routes leave plenty of impact, you just don't feel quite as much for the character's situation (note that I say situation, and not the characters themselves).

30 minutes in? Actually, it's more like 15 or 20 unless you read unbearably slow.

Give it another shot. Go for Tsugumi's route and then go through the other 4 routes fairly quick unless the character really interests you.

Then comes the holy grail, Coco route.

I didn't like Ever17 too much. The only good moment was %%a reunion of family of Kid,his sister and Tsugumi%%. Everything other was meh.

Also translation of dimension units sucked. I want to shoot moron who "translated" meters to feet:

    > Move 12 feet forward
    > 1,2,3,4 done.

Also I lolled that they simply multiplied meters by 3 to get feet(50 meters=150 feet, yeah sure.)

Seriously if you read like 15 minutes more you would have been there.

Although the pacing is pretty slow throughout for all 4 regular routes. (lol chicken sandwiches)

If you can grow to like a few of the characters the main routes aren't so bad, though, and DAT ENDING makes up for it.

What the hell, man? It's a 30-50+ hour novel; you do NOT go into this expecting shit to happen all at once. Some time around the two hour mark shit should go down, then about half way in more shit goes down in a high manner, then you repeat for more shit, then at the end your explodes. That's how Ever17 works. Buckle up, read it all, or GTFO.

I just finished Sharin no Kuni.

It was pretty damn good up until the end. Goddamn that was anti-climatic. And none of the epilogues make up for it (except maybe Ririko's, but it's too short and sudden)

I also expected better characterization from Huzouki. He was an enjoyable villain, but ultimately felt shallow and plot device-y.

    And Touka is my favourite girl. She's just so full of love and forgiveness ;_;

I kind of agree, but even then, some better characterization would've been well welcomed. Further information on his relationship with Kenichi's father, for one example.

I just can't bring myself to think of him as a "great villain", despite having everything for it.

    FSN
    Tsukihime
    Utawarerumono

Those are the basics. I also recommend you pick up the Muvluv series, as the world renowned third installment should be coming in half a year or so. Again, there's not much action in the first part, but it's enjoyable and the characters are nice.

By the way, the protagonist doesn't look half bad. And I think I'm gonna go for Misaki the first time around.

    >Redshift (this should take like two hours of your time, just do it, faggot)
I thought Redshift was ultimately shallow and anticlimatic. No plot point whatsoever (either mundane or fantastic) gets developed at all.
MC was cool, and is the only good thing about it. He doesn't get much development, but the little he has, it's good.

I'd recommend True Remembrance or Narcissu better for short VNs. And May Sky if you want something purely romantic, but it's not on the same level of the other two (While still nice).

Since we're doing recommendations, I'm looking for some more shit too. In relative, kinda-sorta most-liked to least liked order I've read:

    Saya no Uta
    Ever 17
    Planetarian
    Umineko 1-4
    Sharin no Kuni
    FSN
    Muvluv Extra
    Umineko 5-6
    Underwater Ray Romano
    Tsukihime
    Muvluv Unlimited
    Redshift
Not counting Rance, what might I want to hit next?

THIS is how all recommendation queries should begin- "here's what I like. Anyone with similar tastes have some suggestions?"

That said, you've already covered most of the ones I consider good. The one I don't see on there that I liked was Narcissu. Swan Song maybe, though it has probably one of the most rage-inducingly evil villains ever.

Yup. I got kinda bored at the beginning, then I downloaded a walk through, looked at the number of paths I would have to go through to see the whole story, did a 360 and walked away.

I'm already planning on getting Remember 11 once everything is QCed and pretty, will look into Cross Channel.

You get characters that exist to fill the ero-scene quota.

I've rarely seen a VN with h-scenes not fall over its own dick just trying to get to the next one. Fate and Tsukihime are exceptions, Saya is excusable, Sekian no Inganock would have gotten away with it had it been competently written.

If I remember right, plenty of sex is forced on you, like a nurse going sex-crazed and assaulting you, for example. It's nothing bad though. I don't remember particular "girls getting raped", but my memory is shit.

Also I played a few days of Cross Channel and stopped for random reasons (plan to play it againt). If there's one thing that annoyed me was the way the VN skips time without telling you. Goddamn, so annoying.
