Get
one properly tailored. Being uncomfortable in a suit is a sign that
it's not fitting right. I know this because I'm tall and
broad-shouldered, but have a tiny waist, so I never even knew what a
suit was supposed to fit like until I got one tailored to fit.
Seriously
a suit that's meant to fit you just feels -right-. It isn't possible to
feel uncomfortable wearing a suit that looks good and fits good. One of
the basic rules of being a man is that no matter how casual the
occasion is, the guy in the good suit is never overdressed; every other
man in the room is instantly underdressed.
A good suit that fits
good is probably the only time you can actually get a solid return on
putting real money into clothes, especially when you start hunting for
real careers instead of jobs. The extra confidence a suit gives you
walking into that interview is worth every cent you spent on it.
Seriously,
if you're going to buy a suit, buy a good suit. If it cost you less
than three hundred bucks in your own country, it's not good enough. A
cheap suit can easily be outright worse than no suit. If you want to get
it on the cheap, next time you go through Thailand or Malaysia ask
around work and the house for anyone who knows a good tailor there. If
you find the right guys you can get them for less than two hundred bucks
each, tailored, in as good a quality as you'd normally pay five hundred
for in a department store. |
