    How the fuck do I pronounce this? I hide my power level, so I don't really have to say it out loud, but it's bothering me. I've been pronouncing kind of like "Plan-et-ays" as if it was Spanish, but I don't really know if that's right.

    tl;dr - how do I say Planetes?

    >> Anonymous 09/12/10(Sun)14:56 No.40215291
    It's the word planete in french, right?

    The second 'e' and the 's' are silent.
    So it sounds just like "planet" in english with the 'a' pronounced as in "what?"

    Planetes is from the ancient Greek word for wanderers. During the middle of the episode you see this word in several different languages, including English.

    Planets appear to wander across the sky, due to their orbits, hence the term. Of course, the ancient Greeks classified the Sun and Moon as a planet, but not the Earth. Which makes sense with this Geocentric definition.

    ΠΛΑ=Pla (a is short)
    ΝΗΤ=neet (the H is an "eta," it makes a long "e" sound)
    ΕΣ=es (short e sound)
