I really like that scene actually. Black Star was basically freaking out about having to own up to his mortality. So he challenged a god. Kind beat the shit out of him, but at the end of the scene we see how unhappy Kid is about having to do that. It's echoed in the last chapter as well, as we see the Kid really is the one who respects Black Star the most.
