Zombies could work because the virus that causes zombification could, in theory, work like a mitochondrion and produce a chemical similar to Adenosine TriPhosphate.

That's why I always liked Resident Evil zombies. It stated in the files you read that they weren't dead, just had next to zero brain activity and were overly agressive.

My theory: the zombi-ism is actually caused by a powerful neurotoxin that effectively turns off all the brain's higher cognitive functions and heavily increases aggression. Their able to metabolism is cranked up which gives them more strength, and was appears as necrosis is actually meant to make them more durable, since they were probably bio-engineered. When shot or stabbed, they do suffer damage, only it doesn't appear so because they're so hopped up on aggression-inducing hormones.

get regular people, insert drill on brain, lobotomize brain to the point where primal instincts become honed while this happen specimens will be enraged and will be in zombie state.

even though you cant spread the symptoms like a virus. you can develop a injection that can attack the brain and develop a biological reproduction of the injection when bitten

but for that you need nanobots or something similar. at this point of time we dont have the that technology but give it 50years or so. that when you can have clinical created zombie.

Plus, you are all forgetting one thing in this wizard vs muggle war: half-bloods and muggleborns. Who do you think somebody like Hermione or Harry would side with:

    b) Muggles, including one or both of their parents and half their family, who will promise them that they only want to kill off the "evil" ones and will leave the rest alone? Whether the Muggles keep their word is another discussion entirely, of course

And we've seen that wizards aren't the most responsible as parents (I see to remember one year early on, Harry and Ron being left alone at the station and having to steal Ron's dad's car to get to school) or guardians (Hogwarts teachers were especially bad and absent-minded) so it shouldn't be too hard.

You know what the 42% that don't get caught have in common? They don't go out and rob 8 banks. They rob one or two then stop. Always.

The attacker always has the reaction advantage.
If you had a gun to the back of my head, and you were just holding it there with no intent to shoot me, I could move the gun away from me before you could pull the trigger.

The delay in human synapses from when you realize something is happening, to when you can act on it, allows the person who makes a move out of the blue to always strike first.

The reason most bank robbers get caught is they get sloppy as they have more successful robberies, leaving behind physical evidence, and as more robberies occur, police can establish a pattern for the robber. Even something as basic as where the banks are can help establish where the robber lives. This can't be done with just one random bank. More robberies = more data = more likely to get caught. It even says so in that article.

The major areas (Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade) are guaranteed to have a ton of wizards there. Take those 3 places out and you could decimate the population.

Consider this: There are supposedly 1000 students at Hogwarts at any given time. This is about 143 students per year (of course it's bullshit because everybody is always in the same class with everybody else, so it's probably only a couple hundred students, but I disgress.

Even if you ignore the fact that there is likely a baby boom going on since the war is ended and more and more people will be having children, that gives a wizarding population of 14,285. Most of whom are useless rather than battle hardened wizards like the Death Eaters or Harry Potter.

Considering the war just ended though, it's likely the numbers are only in the couple of thousands, most of them young and not well trained.

Controlled settings are controlled for a reason. You eliminate the variables to only test the ones you want. That guy holding the gun in the controlled setting for instance is going to try to react in time, nothing more, so you can be sure he isn't just going to shoot because he randomly feels like it. He's not going to be making unexpected moves himself. In a real situation, he might.

Have any of you arguing about wizards beating gun-users actually read the damn books?

Harry Potter constantly dodges wand-shots, or the magic users fighting him just plain miss. However, every wand-shot requires the magic words being spoken out loud. Guns, while arguably having the same accuracy as wands, have enough ammunition in their magazines and work easily and quickly enough to turn the demand for magic words into a serious disadvantage for wands.

You could argue that a creative wizard could disable the gun-users by simply making use of normal spells to get the advantage (lifting tables and throwing them at the gun-users or whatever), but this requires the wizard to be creative, and in the books I don´t quite remember any of the Deatheaters being creative during direct combat, nevermind the good guys.

And then, there is the fact (correct me if I´m wrong) that the muggle government does not necessarily know jackshit about wizards. The Prime Minister of Great Britain is in direct contact with the Minister of Magic. There is a possibility that the Minister of Magic shares knowledge and items with magic properties with him just to be safe in case a wizard goes rogue and starts blowing muggles up. What did Rowling say about this, besides muggles absolutely demolishing magic users canonically?

    some pasta:

There may be another way of repelling a Dementor besides the Patronus Charm, as Harry Potter disagreed with Professor Snape on the best method for confronting one when it was the subject of a report in his sixth year.[2] This implied that there were other methods, which seemed further likely given that most Dark Wizards were apparently unable (or unwilling) to produce a Patronus.

    >lolz ensues

You would think if that was such a great battle tactic, they would have done it at least once in the... six, seven books the saga has? But they haven´t done it once.

Wizards are SHIT at fighting. They are excellent for being sneaky little fucks, but when it comes to standing up and fighting, all the advantages of magic go away. Including the brains to use it creatively.

    >Send a hoard of dementors at any muggle institution
    >Go over later to do whatever the fuck you want

First: dementors are limited in number. Second: their loyalty is nowhere near guaranteed. If it ever comes down to a global war between muggles and wizards, why do you think the dementors are going to side with the wizards? Or, actually, with anybody? With all the chaos going on, they are better off enjoying the buffet than acting as some kind of special forces.

Also, correct me if I´m wrong, but it´s not like ALL wizards know how to do a patronus, right?

First, come up with a way to detect the area in which wizards are in the first place. Wait, no you can't. They're canonically impossible to reach by human's. Dementors can be sent out with orders while wizards stay in their protected zones, dementors can take their sweet time defeating muggles.

Dementors were said to grow like fungi in the darkest dankest places, creating a dense chilly fog. It was said to be impossible to destroy a Dementor, but their numbers could be limited by eradicating the conditions that allowed them to multiply, implying that they died off eventually

We'd nuke the forests and get rid of them, no loss there.

And dementors have to be controlled by a wizard to be effective in any way. NO COMFORT FOR U!

    >Side with the guys that can patronas me, or the ones that can't patronas me, and I can eat as many of them as I want? I think any creature will go for the latter option.

Again, is the Patronus a widely-available spell, or a special one that most wizards don´t know? Most Patronus used in the saga belonged to high-ranking, or specially prepared wizards. As far as I remember, Lupin taught his class in the third book about Patronus, but think carefully about this: it probably was because Lupin did not trust Dementors. However, Dementors are a tool of the Ministry, and why would the Ministry start talking shit about one of their tools and teaching the average wizard how to counter them when what that´s going to do is scare the wizards about what the Ministry is doing, and possibly incite uncomfortable questions?

Think. The Ministry is using SOUL-SUCKERS. It is the closest thing to having your government using THE DAEMONS. And also, when Voldemort was supposed to have come back, the Ministry, instead of improving Defence Against the Dark Arts, demolished the course.

The Ministry of Magic are cowards who, when faced with the possibility of war, bet on hogging all the power to themselves. This would make useful spells more scarce, meaning the average wizard gets worse tools to defend himself. Specially against the Ministry´s tools, which again, are...?

Also, AGAIN. DEMENTORS ARE NOT LOYAL TO THE MINISTRY, they are pretty much an independent faction. And if there is a war, that´s just the perfect opportunity for them. Wizards and muggles would be defenseless against them in the chaos. The Patronus spell, being relatively rare, does not factor in the same way it did NOT factor in when they decided to serve Lord Voldemort instead of the Ministry.

Dementors are nowhere near the scale of nuclear weapons. It would take a dementor years to destroy the same number of lives a single nuke could. And yes, numbers do matter, especially when the death of 1 wizard is equivalent to the death of a million muggles.

Hell, why would they let Muggle terrorists reign free even? Face it, the ones who influence the wizarding community are all a bunch of ancient old fucks with outdated conceptions/practices of running society and still can find themselves amazed/confounded at what regular Muggle society can accomplish (i.e. technology)
