As for newfags, they have to refresh more often than others to get their posts through, therefore posting less. By the same token, the more characters you learn about, the more you'll be able to post, the system encourages this pattern.

I used to very much fit into your mode of though, but once I finally stopped being a hikkikomori and actually MET other people, anime watchers and non-anime watchers alike, my attitude changed. It became very apparent to me that judging someone on their tastes, or believing one person's is superior, is pretty silly.

Especially when /a/ is such a hypocrite. Index as some gold standard of anime knowledge? Really? It aired in 2008. Knowing about anime that's 2 years old does not make you some elite anime god.
