I've been lurking here since 2005 but do we ever have a meet-up? I'm rather interested on how such an event will turn out.
    >> Anonymous 08/24/10(Tue)15:20 No.39554264
to many different countries and continents, also do you think that most of /a/ will leave their basements to meet-up people to drink or something?
    >> Anonymous 08/24/10(Tue)15:20 No.39554267
We tried that once, but everyone insisted on hosting it so they'd not have to leave their basement.

No you haven't. You've refreshed the page a few times since 2005, that doesn't count as lurking. If you were lurking then you wouldn't have had to ask such a dumb question.
    >> Anonymous 08/24/10(Tue)15:42 No.39555017
Meeting people who you know online is awkward and nerve wracking enough without them being anonymous, it would be so fucking awkward meeting /a/nons in real life.

First, we're all as rude as fuck to each other (because anonymity, we don't know who we're hating, etc), and second because 4chan dialect in real life is fucking awkward.

When I came to university I met a fellow cool guy who was also a long time /a/ user, and we talk about 4chan IRL without being faggots about it though...

I've never been to a con and I never will. Just because I like watching anime, reading manga, and playing video games, that doesn't mean I want to spend hundreds of dollars on toys and merchandise, and it certainly doesn't mean that I want to cosplay, listen to arrogant dub voice actors entertaining their teenage fans, or spend any time around noisy, socially inept, overweight fantards.

That's the con I was talking about. Never been though. I live near Manchester, and to be honest, I'd have to save around £200 if I want a train ticket, entry and spending money, and I'm not the type to be able to save that much and spend it all in one day.

I may go to that con eventually, but at the very least, I want to live closer to there first so I'm paying less for travel. I haven't chosen a Uni yet, so who knows, I may not be horribly far like I am now.

Also, if you have me on MSN you should speak to me more often.

I've always wanted to cosplay at a con. Not something like a proper character, but a joke cosplay. Like that guy who covered himself with weeds and said he was Uiharu with her headband grown out, or the guy dressed as a Death Note. Something like that.

    I don't know what I'd be though.

Though if I wasn't so fat, I'd cosplay Shinra and find myself a Celty cosplayer and woo her. Though she'd have to not say anything and speak entirely through her phone, otherwise DO NOT WANT

Whatever costume you do, go for at least 90% accuracy.

I found cosplaying pretty fun. I just dressed up as a character and walked around. People stopped me to comment on my costume, take a picture, hug me apparently (only females did), etc. Later I see people uploading the pictures they took online and comments next to my picture saying "This guy was cool, awesome costume, my favorite character" etc and it feels good when you put time and effort into a cosplay.

You know, not acting like a complete freak in public is a good thing. It has nothing to do with shame, it's just a matter of being mature and self-aware. Little children will scream and kick and cry in front of everyone, but an adult knows how to contain themselves when in the presence of others.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. If you can't act normal in public, I don't want to be seen with you. It's as simple as that.

Also return tickets from manchester to london are £43 with a 16-25 railcard (which is £20, but lasts a year and saves you a good 33%+ on all train tickets)

As for spending at cons, I wouldn't do it if I were you. Buy a few small things, but don't spend more than £50. Spending £200 at a con... you could get the same shit online for £100.

Ah, see now that's why I want to do a joke cosplay. If it's a character with an established look, then people will point out every flaw they possibly can, and even if you put in a fuckton of effort, it can be ruined by the smallest things.

I've seen an amazing cosplay of v-13 from BlazBlue, SO MUCH effort was put in... but the girl cosplaying her had really fat things, and whatever she'd done to make her skin paler was really uneven. It ruined it, despite the amazing details put into the cape and giant sword.

If you do a joke cosplay, people don't pick out the flaws, they just say "Lol, so funny" even if it's badly made.

The guy was talking about someone in public at his University singing the Angel Beats theme song out loud. Like I said, there's a time and a place for everything. Girls will show their tits at Mardi Gras, and that's not only okay, but expected. If a girl tried it any other time on the street, she'd get fined for indecent exposure.

    This.

When I'm at home, I don't give a fuck about my appearance. I can go without shaving for a few days, wear dirty clothes, just don't give a fuck.
But when I have to go out, I will always shave, take a shower and WASH MY HAIR (caps since alot of people seem to fail at this point), put on some nice, ironed, clean clothes and shoes. Be sure my hair looks decent. I don't even mention deodorant because it should be obvious.
I do all this because I have (still) some self-respect for myself, don't want to look like a faggot and thus not attract any attention at all, don't want to inconvenience other people around me (would you prefer sitting next to a smelly person?).

There's this thing called public manners, or general behaviour in public. The general rule is : you don't do things that trouble others around you.

    >on some nice, ironed, clean clothes and shoes. Be sure my hair looks decent.

BTW wearing 'creased' and 'foldy' and non-ironed clothes is not a 'bad' thing to do. Unless you are going to a semi-formal event there is no need to do that, and the only reason for that is corporate society has a stick up its' assholw regarding conformity to shitty 'hygene' rules.

Also well regarding hair displays, that gets weird. At least you can (presumably) comb it with your hands or whatnot. I do not have that advantage - damn 'kinks' in my hair.
