does anyone else hate it when you hear people talk about anime in real life? i always feel ashamed and disgusted that i know what they are even talking about. it always sounds so lame and childish coming out of other peoples mouths.

I know exactly how you feel. Power level is to be hidden. Only raging faggots display theirs at full strength

I agree with OP. Although I will discuss things like DBZ and Pokemon in public if someone else brings it up since those are (were) practically mainstream in the US anyway.

I talk to certain people about anime. Doesn't really bother me, it's like discussing any other form of entertainment.

I never talk about anime to my friends.

One time we were at the mall, and we saw some seemingly normal people in the anime store, and we made fun of them.

    I secretly wished to be with them, and enjoy anime with others who enjoy anime ;_;

When it comes to hiding the power-level, I am a huge enthusiast. There are only 2 friends that know I watch anime, and one of them just assumes that I'm a mainstream/big 3 fag, to which he doesn't really find abnormal.

I simply refuse to let my "power level" out in public because of the stereotypes attached to the medium. Usually, I'm not the self-conscious type, but being labeled a awkward fag cause I watch chinese cartoons is something I don't want tacked onto me. Hell, I don't even understand why people call themselves "self-proclaimed otakus". Do they not know that shit is frowned upon in Japan? The country that produces all of the shit that you otakus just love?

Trench coats are nice, especially for harsher cold climates like where I live.
In Minnesota it can drop to -20 degrees Fahrenheit on any given day, so having a coat that goes down below your waist, and also covers your neck is a huge advantage to the cold.
It's also all one piece, instead of having a coat, scarf, and snow pants that can get uncomfortable. If you have to adjust one of those items, you risk getting snow inside of your clothing because you had to adjust it.

Keep in mind that the whole star wars/star trek, comic book types used to face this kind of discrimination. There still is some of this ilk, but not as much as decades before. It is one of my deepest hopes that anime becomes more acceptable. Not necessarily mainstream, but just not as vilified.

If they are talking about Naruto/Bleach then I tell them to shut the fuck up.

If they are talking about decent/good anime I don't give a shit.

If they are talking about top tier anime then I go balls to the walls and nerdgasm all over them.

with all the comic book movies it is much more acceptable than it use to be.. until you start talking about comic books that have no movies.

When Comic-Con was going on, the media covered it pretty extensively, more so than if they had ever covered an anime convention. The news of the new Scott Pilgrim movie was a big thing talked about and was shown by the media to many people.

I'd say comic are more accepted in society than anime.

You know why hearing people talk about anime in real life sucks?

Because it proves that most people have nothing interesting to say about anime.
    >> Anonymous 08/17/10(Tue)23:58 No.39320281
It's fine as long as you're not a tool. I can talk about it to a degree where people see what I see in it, to an extent, but you've gotta gauge your audience, and I actually have other interests and some social skills. That might be the problem for a lot of people. It doesn't dominate my life, and I can talk about other things.

I usually go back to school with my favorite anime of the summer on my binders. Nothing full blown, just something on the front of my binder to make it look interesting.
No one really bothers asking about it or even notices it and I rarely talk about anime or manga IRL since people at my school have a vague idea of anime or are mainstream/big 3

Exactly. If you're actually interested in comics, rather than a superficial interest because you saw a movie based on one and read the source material, you would still be stereotyped as a nerdy loser.

You shouldn't be ashamed of what kind of entertainment you enjoy. Just because some people may look down on you for liking anime, that doesn't mean you should be ashamed. There are more serious things to be worried about than if people around you are going to think you're a faggot for watching anime.

Take me for instance. I used to not talk to ANYBODY about anime. But once you meet a few people who like it as much as you, that anxiety goes away. And I talk about anime in public just as often as people talk about Lost or Breaking Bad in public. It's just a form of entertainment, so who cares?

I don't advertise any of my interests in public. I'll talk about them with people I know in private but there's no reason to spew out the details of my personal life in public around a bunch of people who don't give a shit.

The only people I really hate are the Narutards. The ones that wear headbands and do the Jutsu motions all the damn time.

I don't really hate people who enjoy the Adult Swim block or the Big Three in general as long as they're not yelling or acting out it. Simply because all they have is a passing interest, something to enjoy when bored but not as a hobby.

Whenever I somehow get sucked into an anime conversation at my campus (somebody will see me playing OSU or some shit and come talk to me)

I act like i'm a huge old man when they ask what my favorite anime is. I usually respond with Hokuto no ken, macross, ect.

And if they tell me what their favorite anime is (lets assume they said deathnote) I'll just say isn't that the show where the one guy washes the other guys feet? pretty gay in my opinion.

Honestly, once you pass high school, nobody who passes by is going to give a shit if you're wearing an anime T-shirt or if you have a character on your binder if it's not Strike Witches or something like that.

I've been slowly getting over my old anime music. Rurouni Kenshin (yes I had that shit, yes it was shit) got old quick, Cowboy Bebop is finally starting to get old (and embarrassing, though I still love Tank). However, 2.22 music is fucking awesome and less weeaboo'y than the other shit.

Nobody is going to outright give you shit for it, and most people probably won't care at all, but don't kid yourself, there are still other faggots who will judge you based on it. It's always simpler to just avoid doing that kind of stuff. What's the point of it anyway, all it says is "hey look at me, I'm such a huge animu nerd I'm going out of my way to advertise it"

I wore my konata T shirt to class a few times. A few nerds gave awkward laughs at my direction, but not the mean kind, the "oh lol, lucky star..." type laugh.

I heard some guys Talking about youtube poops in other day. I wish I went and talked to them.

PS: 99% of people wont give a shit you like anime or manga, as long as you're not a fag about it. The 1% that judge people, are those faggots who judge EVERYTHING. You know them. If something happens that they dont like, they have to hate on it for the rest of the day, if you're one of those people, fuck you.
