Best is subjective. I think Heartcatch is the strongest season, is fully subbed up to date and is still on going so has the most interest on /a/.
That being said watch the first DX movie. Pick the girls you enjoy the most and watch their show. Note the Heartcatch girls will not be in it.

I'm a huge Precure fag who likes every season but I would also recommend Heartcatch and the first DX movie for beginners. perhaps the first season (Futari wa Precure) as well.

I saw all of Fresh first, and it was good.
Then I moved to Splash and it was fabulous.
Yes! was a bit too long but it was decent.
Now I am on Max Heart.

The problem with most precures is somewhere after the first season, Toei decided that more charcters = more merchandise. But as a result, not everyone is developed properly, the group dynamics becomes skewed and you have pointless 3rd/4th/5th wheel characters that are precures just to fill in a slot

In the original it was shiny luminous
In Fresh it was Pine and Berry

Heart Catch seems to do a better job of establishing Itsuki and Yuri as upcoming Precures and laying the basis so they still stay involved as the story goes on. It does have it flaws, though. It's hard to think of Erika as anything other than Tsubomi's friend/ that girl who isn't Nana Mizuki
