Oh look, its this thread again....

There's good shows both in the 90s and after the 90s. I can list just as many good shows that came after the year 2000 as there was in the 90s.

The only real 'slump' Anime was in was that short period between 1999-2004. And even then, some of the best shows Anime has ever seen came out of that period like CardCaptor Sakura, Hajime no Ippo and more.

Macross Plus! One of the most splendid 90's anime out there. Many people said it was overrated but this is one of my all-time favorite. The animation was top-notch, the music was great, too. Looking at CG shit Frontier has (or at least another mecha anime) I really miss 90's style.

Macross Plus's animation is still top-notch. Within the mech genre at least, the only things recently that compare are Rebuild and Gundam Unicorn, and I'd say Plus is better animated than the latter.

    >No, the slump happened in the early 90s. The industry nearly collapsed at that point.

I'll give you that. What I was talking about was 'creative slump'. Aka, much of what was coming out between 1999-2004 were clone shows (mostly thanks to studios like Gonzo) and, after Love Hina and Mahoro, just quickly done Ecchi comedies with no substance.

Things started picking up around 2004-2005 with more original shows. Which, you could kind of compare to the trend of the 90s which had its boom around 1995.

Personally, I found the plot and characters of Plus somewhat unlikable. Even Frontier had characters I could enjoy on a shallow level, which is the level at which I like to enjoy Macross.

But despite that (and despite my not being so hot about Yoko Kanno's work in Plus), it's still god tier mecha porn that rivals and exceeds modern animation.

8th MS Team and 0083 are OVAs, so more likely they will have better animation than your regular series show

It's kinda cheating to use OVAs as a benchmark in terms of animation for the older series

I haven't read the manga but currently watching Gigantor. They are the same in which they have shotaro solving mysteries but the scale of things are a lot bigger. Instead of finding out what the hell is going on at the zoo each episode is about fighting some dictatorship or evil organization trying to take over the world.

pic related, dick is a bad ass and infiltrates the enemies HQ. ironically his character is more faithful in Giant Robo

What you call 'killing Mecha' some would call 'helping it survive'.

The days of Char's Counterattack and 52 episodes of slow dialogue between characters with the occasional fight (Gundam Wing) are over. Mecha is being mixed with other genres. And its doing much better than the 'pure' mecha shows.
