Discuss what is so wrong about this scene? Everything was off.. The song was off the animation.. It felt SO cliche.

But mind you though it's not bad to have cliche...

I... I don't know how to feel about the last episode. The graduation scene made me baww like a fucking faggot. Then Otonashi took Kanade outside and asked her to stay with him forever, and I knew that I was in for the typical forced KEY heartbreak. Even in this I felt conflicted, as I was really happy that Otonashi loved her, but at the same time, the scene was just painfully bad. Then of course there was the teaser ending which made me fucking rage at how typical it is of KEY. I just feel that if it were over 20 episodes long, this series would have been godly. It needed more time to develop character relationships and avoid plot holes. As it stands now, this series has wasted more potential than any other I have seen, ranking right above Geass R2.

Kanade wasn't dumb, she knew that everyone has to disappear, and there was no point in forming a relationship in that false world. It probably hurt her like hell to let her self disappear. Otanashi was smart enough to also let him self disappear unlike the "Angel Player" programmer.

No, that's not what happened. You aren't looking at it in the necessary context and you're ignoring the flow of the scene.

Tenshi gave herself wings just because Otanashi thought they'd look good on her--you don't do that for a friend.

So in the end not even Naoi could get all of Otonashi's memories back with his hypnosis. He needed to be with Kanade to completely get rid of his amnesia.

I guess that's part of the reason why that shadow creator guy couldn't disappear. He probably couldn't get all his memory back. The amnesia in the after life world must be tough since not even hax hypnosis can cure it.

Agree, but graduation was equally forced. To compare, watch some of the previous eps. The key (oh the pun) was to never make things too sugary. They actually managed to tell the story of Otonashi falling in love with Kanade so carefully many people who are used to I LOVE YOU TO DEATH KANADE!!! didn't even notice. Graduation scene would have been fine for some typical hyper-sweet series, but it was too obvious for this show. Too direct.

Everything about Angel Beats was a delightful train wreck. It was a lot like Code Geass: enjoyable, but if you think about it there are SO MANY problems. And you don't have to think very hard to find them.

The difference is that all of /a/ found Code Geass to be terrible, while this current /a/ seems to, for the most part, refuse to see all the flaws.

    >Hacker guy in The heart room
There was a Programmer who fell in love. Then, his beloved disappeared. As time went by (perhaps when he was trying really hard to pass on), he discovered a 'bug' in the system wherein people without any regrets would be mistakenly thrown into that afterlife. This would make them stuck there, unable to move on.

Realizing that he is one of these rare occurrences, he held on to the faint hope that his beloved will return to the afterlife in one way or another and he decided to wait it out. Then, he went mad from the waiting, and he eventually developed a software that would handle this bug if it ever happened again -- the Shadows of Angel Player. Before he converted himself into an NPC, he made a construct who would handle this program.

Whether his NPC self was the construct or not is debatable though.

    >Time paradox
Time in the afterlife does not flow in the same manner as time in real life. For example, real life time may be seen as one continuous straight line, while time in the afterlife may look like isolated points, disjointed segments, a sine curve, a circular loop, etc.

The Programmer was another person like Otanashi, a person who stumbled into that world because they had amnesia despite having a fulfilled life. The Programmer fell in love but his lover disappeared leaving him alone, so he created the Angel Player program and made him self into a god. He waited for years to find his lost love, regardless of how futile and unlikely it was that she would come back. He ended up going insane and he could not wait any longer so he made him self into an NPC waiting for the day his love would return to him. Otanashi was exactly the same, but he let go and let him self disappear.

    (continuation)
    >Otonashi doesn't have a heart even thought being in the afterlife fully regenerates one
Organ donation causes you to give up your organs. Thus, Otonashi's heart no longer belonged to him, and he didn't have it (afterlife world probably made an artificial heart to compensate for this). Since his heart was donated to Kanade (and she accepted it), it now belongs to her. Thus, when she died a few years later (heart transplant patients don't live for too long), Otonashi's heart was already considered part of her body by her soul which was sent to the afterlife.

On the other hand, disabled people like Yui, Iwasawa or Hinata did not give up possession of any of their body parts. Even though some of their body parts were not functioning or even separated, these body parts still belonged to them. Thus their souls still considered them part of their body.

    >Naoi's hypno skill
He learned about hypnotism in the school library. This is similar to Takamatsu's training in secret.

    >Angel player
Program made by the Programmer that is able to alter the world.

no anon, you are the summerfag
The show wasn't predictable at all. At the beginning people on /a/ were making threads predicting that Angel Beats would be the characters disappearing one by one every episode. The writers obviously set this misconception in order to defy it in play ball where Hinata comes close to but doesn't disappear.

Who honestly expected Kanade and Otonashi to fall in love, that Kanade was only here waiting to say thank you to Otonashi for saving her life?

And about the programmer. Just because the show never directly puts the programmer in front of the viewer doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. I'm sorry if it's too hard to understand if it's not shoved in your face but the whole thing is related to Kanade and Otonashi. Kanade was waiting for Otononashi to move on while Otonashi is similar to the programmer because his love blossomed in the afterlife. There's a history repeating itself thing going on here.

So in conclusion: no anons, you be the summerfags.

Unless it's addressed, is done for comedy, or its ambiguity is central, and meant to be so. And that last one's tricky- most of the time you can figure out the answer. Leaving things unexplained entirely is what most people call bad writing.

    >Does Hinata like Yuri or Yui?
He liked both, but at different times. So much time has passed between Track Zero and the anime that they probably grew apart (similar situation with Chaa x Yuri and Ooyama x Hinata). He probably got over Yuri at some point, but as of the Graduation, there are still some lingering feelings on Yuri's side.

    >How did Noda disappear without telling Yuri his feelings?
Wait for the OVA. It will hopefully cover the 3 days that Yuri slept.

    >Where did Naoi got his hypnotism?
    Library.

    >How Tenshi/The programmer had the capability to alter the world. What experience would give them these abilities while the likes of Takeyama couldn't?
    Angel Player.

    >WHO WAS PROGRAMMER?
    Unknown.

    >Takamatsu was able to recover from becoming an NPC, did the programmer do the same?
Unknown, but if we consider the AI as his NPCd self, then he probably moved on when Yuri rejected godhood.

it's dangrous for someone to fall in love in AB world cause you would got stuck in this AB world(you would never be fufilled as the one you love will eventually dissapear leaving you alone, to wait her/him to appear again would be so long that you might go crazy, like the Programmer )

this is the reason kanade waited (till the gradutate) for otonashi to forget her, if she recieved his love, it would eventually made otonashi regret it cause kanade never had any feelings for him and it would be his fault that made kanade stuck in this world, hence the last scene we saw in this episode

lol I'm just going to bull shit here, but what if Otanashi was the programmer. The programmer fell in love with someone in that world but she disappeared leaving him alone, so he waited and ended up turning him self into an NPC until she returned. Otanashi was there before Kanade he was just an NPC. The program Otanashi wrote released him from his NPC state because Kanade was a reincarnation of his lost love. because Kanade had his heart he was finally able to regain his memory while laying on her chest in the nurses office so when his love left him again he was able to make the right choice and leave that world with her.

    >Otonashi confesses his love right before Kanade disappears, for him to wait for her would mean that the entire plot loops itself

Maybe when he was released from his NPC state he also lost all his memory from when he was in that world, and when he got all his memory back he didn't care for his lost love because he fell in love with Kanade while he didn't have his memory back.

Even if I'm wrong the plot loops itself anyway because of the amnesia technicality.

    >reincarnation of his lost love.
Kanade is a reincarnation of his beloved, but she also happens to have his heart because of the donor card.
    >to regain his memory
he lost his memory of living in that world too.
    >able to make the right choice and leave that world with her.
Because he was able to realize that it would just keep looping and that they could never have a real relationship in that world because she would keep disappearing.

Except every "plot hole" that's been listed in here actually isn't one and/or is the result of people not paying attention to the story.

Are you sure Kanade uses the exact same software for her powers as the programmer that created the shadows? I always assumed she made her powers on her own like Naoi.

Right, and people can't change their mind at the last second.

Nope, they never can. That's why people always follow through on their decisions.

Sounds a lot like Air. Where a girl and a boy are trapped in a loop. Except instead of the same individuals being reincarnated, it's different people.

Change their mind? Hell, they can't even make their own decisions. Otonashi will do it for them instead.

Otonashi ended up like the programmer, he was someone who didn't have a way out of that world and fell in love with someone who did. Wanting to stay with Kanade is selfish, but I think he has the right to be selfish considering the alternative.
