If you think that Rebuild is a sequel in the sense that it's like a parallel universe created during Third Impact or something, that's fine, I can't say you're wrong about that. What convinces me that EOE Third Impact is Rebuild Second Impact more than the red sea is that Misato remembers multiple angelic figures and lances all over the fucking place. I'd admit the similarities if you convinced me they were there. The thing in the picture I posted doesn't look like a mass production Eva. If you want it to, that's nice, but don't expect other people to be able to magically see that. It doesn't have the forward-pointed head, the mouth, any characteristics to suggest a similarity to Rei. What it does have is two distinctly inhuman eyes, spread wings, and a halo. The Mass Production Evas had none of these things.

For that matter, there were nine or ten Mass Production Evas and only four of these things.

For that matter, the Mass Production Evas had gray Lances of Longinus. The ones at Rebuild's Second Impact are red.

Second Impact in NGE was caused by an attempt to infuse Adam with human DNA - apparently, the goal of this was to take control of Adam and use her to cause Human Instrumentality. Human Instrumentality occurs when all humans lose their AT fields and disintegrate into LCL, allowing their souls to merge. In this state, humans will be incapable of individuality or suffering, fusing into a single entity "free of sin", according to SEELE.

However, the human DNA that was injected into Adam did not have the effect they wanted. Adam woke up, tried to create a bunch of children, and then exploded. The children went dormant; these are the Angels. Adam was destroyed, but two things remained: an embryo containing Adam's DNA only, and a body of fused human and Angel DNA containing Adam's soul. This body was Kaworu.

SEELE then discovered Lilith and spent years working out a plan to cause Human Instrumentality by way of her. This is what they eventually do in Evangelion.
