Mangatraders down for an unknown timeframe, mangahelpers as good as dead, impending charges against 30 of the most biggest manga sites, rise of online readers/newfaggotry.

How do you view the current situation of manga/animu online and how do you think it will develop over the next 2 years?

This; if I were in their situation, I'd remove the direct links to downloads.

Also, does anyone know if #lurk's in that list? I wouldn't mind too much if they went underground and did everything via IRC, but it'd be a sad loss if they disappeared entirely.

We have never hosted manga, but I would prefer to keep this site as far from the gray area as possible. It has always been my ambition to maintain an information site and not one specific to releases.

Mangaupdates & #lurk would be hard looses, but still: Just removing some direct links and let the users google for the (still emntioned) names could work. And 'lurk or NULL can still only function via IRC and give a site as a placeholder to find that channel.

There have been like 30 threads already. Not many people care because it wasn't that great of a site in the first place. It's nice for keeping in contact with renegade translators/scanlators, but this change doesn't affect that at all. There are still a heap of alternatives for anyone who really cares anyways.

It can be a bit intimidating at first (holy shit I have to write a line of text instead of just clicking a button?), but IRC really is piss easy to use and often a great resource - a lot of groups regularly have releases on bots before the torrents are up, and in the case of some (THORA) this can be by months.

There are some good channels for chatting floating around on rizon, too - /g/ has about five of varying quality, /m/, /v/ and /jp/ all have pretty nice ones and /a/ has a few decent ones dotted around the place. #/a/ itself has been shit whenever I've been there, however.

I for one is glad this hopefully kills the online viewer faggotry. It will become impossible to download shojo manga (well some is actually good) because it will be "YOU MUST POST AT LEAST 3000 NON SPAM TOO SEE OUR RELEASES". Some scanlator groups that provides mediafire, megaupload etc links will be sued to make an example of. No more online hostan and everyone goes back to irc for downloading manga. My downloading will probably take twice as long time in the future than it does today. However it's just like going back before the dawn of rapidshare.

So far I've been using mangaupdates and cheking the scanlator's websites for releases, but it's hardly adequate.

If I'm trying to find a manga that was scanalted a while ago the scanlation website will often no longer exist, other times they only porivde crappy torrents to download their manga.

Take RAVE Master for example: While MT had no scans for it, lurk did indeed provide 90% of the scans, but newer scans for the latest chapters couldn't be found anywhere on it. had to search several hours to findthe latest chapters.

Its only publishing that is a problem but do you really think they would go after the sites with commissions? those work almost exclusive on H series that could never be released in the western market and its just better to ignore then or its going to make headlines and they get another Rapelay on their hands and EVERYONE loses.
