It's a pretty good show. It switches between comedy and serious pretty seamlessly and harmlessly (save one or two instances). The characters are interesting enough, if a little simple. Some of it is typical Key writing, which you may count as positive or negative. One of the reasons I'm watching it (and why I like it so much) is that I watch it and try to predict how it'll turn out. It changes pace and direction that often it's incredibly hard to tell, but it doesn't mess up the actual storytelling or the feel of the series overall.

Not really. While the serious moments are alright, this anime would be a hell of a lot better without the forced drama. KEY may be known for it, but damn they could make anything remotely better if they didn't fish for delicious tears.

Not to say I dislike Angel Beats, but I believe it would be much better if they didn't try so hard to make the audience feel bad.

It doesn't have the same soul-crushing effect that Key usually tries for, but it does keep some of the emotion (and as such, the forced tragedy). It's very different from usual Key stuff, but as you watch it you do notice things that are typically Key.

As >>35687989 said but didn't explain, the music is good. You should enjoy the scenes where Girls Dead Monster are playing. The music sounds great and the animation during those scenes is pretty good, too. In fact, visually, it is all-around good, except for the odd touch of QUALITY.

I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, or anywhere close. It's nothing exceptional, but it is worth watching.

Cast is pretty much awesome, lots of laughs, good enough drama that one episode could make me cry, more action than any other anime I'm currently watching. Give me a non troll reason not to watch it.

zetsubou sensei and arararararagi-san are voicing the protag.

Oh, yeah, definitely should have mentioned the music. This and Senkou no Night Raid are the only recent shows I've seen with great BGM.

It's bad, don't waste your time.

The drama is ok at best, typical Key. It can be funny at times, but that's mostly due to tried & tested generic characters having generic interactions with other generic characters.
