It didn't. Oldest accounted pokemon game is from 1996 while the one shot that generated the Digimon franchise, C`mon Digimon is from 1997.

However, Pokemon is a shitty, kiddie Shin Megami Tensei ripoff itself, and even though Digimon was kind of a ripoff, after the years passed it proved to be a way superior franchise than pokemon in every single aspect.

I'm tsundere towards Digimon Adventure.

Season 1 was great.

Pretty much this. I love Pokemon but it's not that original and Digimon had the better anime/replayability factor. Pokemon's problem is/was that it has sacrificed some elements that could make it better because of the anime.
