    Time for an educational thread.

Sit down and edumacate yourselves. This is serious business.

Many of you do not need these lessons. You know who you are. Some of you do. You know who you are also.

This is a series in five parts. Let us begin.

First, a few basics on how to obtain maximum enjoyment of your forays into Japanese visual media.

Second, a few pointers on what to watch if you're new to this. Do not make recommendation threads until you have gone through a good portion of this list.

Plus you need to rely on the site's media player (can't use your own), BUFFERING, you have to deal with the "community" on that site (because every streaming site has a retarded community, especially anime streaming sites), plus HD may be seldomly available. Often, the streams are eye cancer despite being HD. And the site may just randomly take down videos.

Sure sounds like the superior way to watch anime.

So why should I stream? It's uncomfortable as hell, I can't screencap, I can't archieve, I have to hope they used the best subs/RAWs for their stream instead of choosing a sauce myself.

The criteria of a newfag includes, but is not limited to:
    Posting (in) GET threads
    Posting (in) off topic threads
    >implying
Using /b/ terms (u mad, epic, etc)
    Using emoticons
Asking for a source on a currently airing show, a well-known show or a classic
Creating a thread about something when there's another one already up. Look before you post, nobody wants 6 threads up about how Aizen is such an EPIC TROLL
Shitty trolling (calling a show pretentious, calling a show moeshit, etc)
    Making recommendation threads
Not knowing the obvious places to get anime (Bakabt, TT, etc)
    Streaming
Having lurked less than half a year at the least
Not knowing how sage works (claiming it doesn't do anything at all, saging a thread only to announce that you're saging, etc)
Bad grammar/not typing words out (y has new episode com out yet????)

I'm sure I missed a few, but this is a general idea.

MPC-HC's DXVA indeed "works fine"... but it also restricts you ridiculously. You can't use any intermediate filters (like VSFilter), you're forced to use specific renderers and thus can't use madVR for example, and you will only have working GPU-accelerated playback in one single player. Neither CoreAVC nor ffdshow-tryouts DXVA have these problems.

MPC-HC's DXVA is arbitrarily restrictive bullshit. This is why you shouldn't use it.

CCCP was designed intentionally for the anime fanbase by collecting the common codecs used by fansubbers and working them into a single, easy to use package. It contains just enough to work properly; if will handle almost anything you throw at it with minimal resource use.

K-lite includes a host of unnecessary codes. If you're worried about bloat and resource use, CCCP is superior. One minor issue is that the CCCP does not always keep up with the latest releases of some of their internal software, most pointedly MPC-HC.

It might be slower by a few percent (read: irrelevant and insignificant difference) and the subtitle "bugs" could have been caused by basically anything. How about you link to something concrete this time instead of posting forum threads with no valid information whatsoever.

And when it comes to trading a few more CPU cycles for a fuckload more compatibility, I'll rather choose compatibility.

Well, what would you suggest doing then? Letting the problems here continue?

I do know simply addressing the problems is useless in the long run. Everyone, are you reading this? Let me say it one more time. Addressing the problems with this board will not change a thing. As some would say, "talk is cheap." Yes, we've had this thread many times in recent memory. We've addressed the problems many times in each of those threads, adding a little more each time. Why hasn't anything changed? Well that's an easy one.

Without action, change will never happen.

ACTION. We can address the problem all we like. We can be elitist faggots to try to keep some quality control here. Will it help? Not really. Some people would see it as a "trolling opportunity" and continue acting like idiots. Of course, moderation action would be what's needed to fill in the gap (banning the idiots.)

There's also the matter of any new people looking here and just "jumping right in." Do you guys really think all new people would read all of this? Simplifying this shit would be best in the long run. If they ignore it, tough on them (as long as there are enough assholes here.)

tl;dr Actions speak louder than words.

wtf is manga doing in .rm format? It's usually .zip or .rar

Try changing the extension to .zip or .rar, maybe the uploader changed the format to avoid having his file deleted or something.

Also, you should always uninstall all of your previous shit and reboot to make sure they're gone before installing complete playback solutions.

    INSTALLING CCCP + COREAVC

    1. If you have any previous codecs/codec packs, uninstall all of them (you can use CCCP Insurgent as help) and reboot.
    2. Get CCCP and CoreAVC.
    3. Install CCCP.
    4. Install CoreAVC, do not install Haali Media Splitter that comes with it.
    5. Go to CCCP settings page 1 and uncheck H.264 (and MT) under FFDShow Video Decoders.
    6. Watch stuff in Media Player Classic HomeCinema (MPC-HC) that comes with CCCP (preferred renderers are Haali Video Renderer and EVR).
