Swampert is the most well balanced starter over all. He is bulky, defensive, and has decent attack. That guy can wreck teams up.

Infernape is probably the second best starter in my opinion. While he is a glass cannon, he has well above average speed, great stab moves, and above average attack.

Third has to go to Empoleon. He has something crazy like 14 resistances AND very high defense... with agility, he can be a potent sweeper (especially with a petaya berry and factoring in torrent).

For those blazikenfags out there... yes, he is very strong, but he has no speed and a lot of weaknesses. Any well prepared team would tear it apart.

A lot of people fail to realise this, but very, VERY few people play at a truly competitive level. Many of the staples of competitive play are fairly rare in normal online play. Tatoeba, Stealth Rock is a common sight in truly competitive play, but it's use can be called situational at best.


Even with Mold Breaker, there are more reliable pokes out there if all you want is raw power.And no, Attract is WAY too situational to be considered good.

Also, Attract really is useful. On average, you see more Male Pokemon than Female or Genderless, so Attract can affect many on a Female Pokemon. A 50% chance to not attack fucks up a lot of shit, forces tons of switches and it works through Substitute.

Grass pokemon make the best traveling companions, a bird can only take you to town, a fish can't swim in the great open plains or the searing desert. Grass pokemon will keep you cool and fed then get you fucked up on some amazing highs at the end of the day.
