Try using Media Player Classic and if something doesn't work, you can try to change to different kinds of output ranging from directx to whatever and also disable and enable filters. I have issues now and then too, but nothing I could not solve by simply changing a few settings.

The border in question is very broad, so yes, this is possible. Depending on the bitrate used to do the encoding, and the framerate experienced in fast moving scenes for encodes with variable framerate, some portions of HD encodes can be considerably more demanding than even other passages in the same file.

How to stop being a streamfag:

1. Download uptorrent, install

2. Go to Bakabt for large (whole seasons) shows and Tokyo Toshokan for single new files

3. Choose and download torrents, click on them and uptorrent opens up so click ok

4. Use the fiel section in uptorrent to choose from the larger files and download only one or two videos at a time (right click and choose do not download or normal download

5. Download from torrent a patched BSplayer pro for large hi def files

6. Or just download vlc

7. Watch videos straight from uptorrent

The best way in general to bump up performance of .mkv files is to get a copy of CoreAVC, and configure your player to use it. You can find CoreAVC on /rs/, and you can find guides for how to configure MPC and The KMPlayer to take advantage of it fairly easily on google.

Don't despair, streamfag. You are close to seeing the light.

Install MPC-HC and CCCP. Go to the options for MPC-HC and on Internal filters, uncheck the boxes for MKV and MP4. Make sure on the right side that MKV DXVA is checked. For Playback Output options -- choose EVR Custom.

Assuming you have a video card thats 2 years old or less, your MKVs should then say: Playing [DXVA] in the lower corner and use the video card instead of the CPU. (Assuming the group encoded them properly)

He was discussing how you would need to spend $1000 on a PC to run MKVs well, etc. And I was pointing out that you can do a really nice PC upgrade these days for $500, or even just spend less than $80 on a DXVA video card which would offload the video playback to the GPU ... which would make your CPU speed irrelevant mostly.

That said, we already stated before this that his CPU should be more than capable of playing back 720p and even 1080p if he uses MPC-HC and/or CoreAVC if he must play them via CPU.
