    >And it's more like 20%.

This is why you should not use CCCP. It's outdated, obsolete and doesn't give you the 20% increase in H.264 decoding performance.

Legit question here. I have a relatively new computer (assembled in June of last year). I can play 1080p H.264 files without any playback/sync problems. What good is 20% better performance in decoding video if my computer is already decoding it more than fast enough?
    >> erejnion 03/26/10(Fri)08:00 No.32578207
hint: the hardware rendering on the HD series of ATI is better than ffdshow, so only 20% increase doesnt mean anything.

I've got a quad core processor (as do many people these days). The only time I've ever maxed out all 4 cores at the same time for an amount of time I could perceive was when I ran core damage to see how hot I could get them. 720p H.264 videos typically make my processor usage hover between 10% and 40%. I pretty much always do several things on my computer while watching anime. In the last 10 months nothing has caused my playback to be stutter. OP may have a point for ancient computers, but for even a half decent computer this seems silly and moot.

Nevermind this, looks like the filter just didn't re-register properly when uninstalling / re-installing CCCP without ffdshow. Re-registering it solved that.

A bigger problem seems to be that MPC-HC refuses to open BSS's DtB encodes.

There's plenty SD encodes with 16 refs, but like said, for HD H.264 encodes out there, 16 refs are used on probably 0.1% of them, and most who have used 16 refs on HD stuff has stopped doing so.

Also, just FYI, CoreAVC CUDA decodes 16ref encodes just fine nowadays. So 16 refs isn't any kind of issue on that end.

In other news, ffdshow's DXVA decoder works fabulously. Postprocessing and VSFilter all works like a dream. 16 ref encodes decode just fine with it too. ATI cards will probably fuck things up though, since they have inferior decoding hardware.

Anyway, currently speaking to the CCCP staff about updating CCCP soon due to this.

Either way, as of now I'll probably continue suggesting CCCP+CoreAVC for GPU H.264 decoding, since it's easier to set up for the average user. Plus that way you'll get working GPU decoding on XP too, since IIRC DXVAv2 is limited to NT6.

    >Anyway, currently speaking to the CCCP staff about updating CCCP soon due to this.

U MAD? Those lazy bastards haven't even updated since Sept 2009.

can you give me an example encode that will probably fuck up ATI's hardware decoding? I want to try it out.

And people always mocked me when I told them CCCP has ancient builds of ffdshow. Stop using this garbage.

Why would I be mad? There's been no real reason to update a stable working playback solution. A major new feature like this would be a good reason to update. Though obviously it'll have to be throughoutly tested first so that shit won't suddenly start breaking.

Wrong, there is plenty of reasons to update, especially since it fixes the slow seeking bug. Typical Daiz, denier of anything.

What card do you exactly have? In any case, you should try BSS's Darker than Black S2 BD encodes. They use 16 reference frames and weightp, which should break ATI's playback quite specularly.

OP, i have an oc'd i7 920, should this concern me?

    How good is VDPAU's scaling?

What's the best mplayer -vo gl mode for upscaling?

I'd still like to hear what exactly IS the slow seeking bug and how to replicate it. I've asked about this multiple times but you've never answered. Google isn't exactly being helpful either.

I've said for years cccp is outdated broken shit that nobody should be using.

It's not even a fucking codec pack, they just cal it that so retards don't get confused.

assemble shit yourself or use VLC. At least VLC doesn't come with anime monitoring spyware.

This coming from the faggot who uses any excuse to use the latest x264 revs, even if 99% of computers can't even play back what gets encoded.
