Don't get me wrong, I think it's going to be a excellent and thrilling show. The problem is, the whole speculah thing could only happen because SnW was so well thought and planned, and said scenario was presented in a very subtle way. Night Raid happens in a period and in a scenario we know very well. We might get lots of threads talking about it, but I don't think it has the same speculation fuel SnW had, sadly.

wat. they covered the climactic battle for which tank-kun has been waiting since the ancient battle shown in Ep. 7 and they cover the whole thing in approx. 7 minutes, and resolved what happened with Rio, bad guy Hopkins, and the bioweapon-hime all in one go. At the pace of the rest of the show, each of those would have been a full episode.

Also, too much weeping. Only Shuko retained my respect (and Tank-kun of course).

I liked the show, but they cheated on the finale.

Great way to put it man, Gunbuster´s ending is that good.

I don´t really thing SnW can be compared with anything, the production team wanted to create something fresh and original, except the initially stereotypical traits of the main characters, they have come with a nice way of telling a good history, while showing us amazing scenaries and epic music. And in the end they were ablke to give it a nice conclusion, which not everyone will like, but it was loyah to the main idea of the series.

Interesting fact for the Speculah, which i think hasn´t been mentioned yet.

Here is the declaration of peace as shown by Rio, signed by the 2 countries, in there we can clearly see the date it was signed:

    22.2.272 A.P.

I think that 272 A.P should mean that the calendar was restarted 272 years ago, Probably the actual date was lost due to the Bird War 1, and all the countries agreed on a new system, so we can assume that the Bird War happened 300 years ago, it had to be something of a huge magnitude so it could start a new era.

How can time be lost? well, if you live on a computer depending society, let´s say our own world on 50 years from now, you drop enough nuclear bombs and electromagnetic impulse bombs (don´t really know much about this, sorry), that eliminate let´s say 95% of the world population and cityes (remember nomansland), and have the rest of them surviving on extreme conditions on a totally devasted world, i think its pretty normal that no one cared which day it was.

After Episode 10 we speculated that it's something more like the Japanese koki or nengo calendars, which are based on the mythical founding of Japan and the reigning emperor, respectively. So A.P. would stand for Arkadia Period and it would be 272 years since the Arkadia family came to power in Helvetia.

It makes sense if Helvetia is going through an imperialistic phase that they would develop their own calender. Also note the diagonal lines intersecting at zero on the 1121st's map, a feature of old maps from before the Prime Meridian was established; everybody wanted to be the center of the world and it created a mess.

To be fair, the US only fucked with Japan after the war for a bit and after they were left to their own devices they went back on track and were poised to become the most powerful nation until their market crashed in the 90's..that was the big scare that Japan was going to take over again.

The Japanese were kind've forced to go into that militarist phase. They had an inferiority complex from Commodore Perry's intimidation and it backfired. Especially when the economy tanked post-ww1 and depression.....allowing the japanese people to go back and remember past injustices and let the militarists take over w/o dissent. Also see their stricter militarist culture then

actually Zipang portrayed that a significant part of the crew from modern japan as being aware that the old imperialistic Japan really isn't the good guy and feel that the nukes on japan was needed to shock them into surrendering and they didn't wanted to fight the allied. (the allied also manages to damage thier ship in a badass scene where he dives his plane straight into it, but unlike the kamikaze pilotes, ejects before it hits because he's aware that returning alive to his family and with information about the cruiser is important)

These anons are telling the truth... I was watching Diebuster right after Gunbuster and well, I didn't like Diebuster like I enjoyed Gunbuster.
It was like FLCL + Mechas (maybe I'm just thinking that way due to art and style... but whatever) whereas Gunbuster had a few great touches to it.

But in the end, when Diebuster picked up speed I enjoyed it as much as I did enjoy Gunbuster just for completely different reasons.

Also the way Diebuster ends is fucking awesome except one thing:
the size does not matter it's THE HEART! Don't fucking care that you're a robot THE HEART MAN! THE HEART!
Also what I liked was the scene where you see Lark in the other cockpit wearing the Gunbuster outfit I almost broke out to tears...

When the camera shows the sky and this light appears and it's stated that Bustermachine 1 & 2 came back I was in tears...

Not as good as Gunbuster in my opinion but two cool shows that you can love for different aspects or hate ... strangely...

Being a germanfag myself I am just flabberghasted at the sheer amount of dipshit German Warmongersoldiers called Hans that wouldn't hit the Atlantic Ocean even if they were drowning in it let alone notice it. The fact that in most warmovies the 'good' ones are always like some sort of Messiah that's mowing down enemies like they were grass and
especially where EVERY 'bad' soldier that died was a necessary/righteous kill but god beware if a 'good' soldier dies he get's 10 minutes of onscreen heroic death.

All just adds up to the fun of watching war movies.
    Also gore.

But I digress, I hope A-1 doesn't do weird shit with the show and shit all over history in order to just not upset anyone.
Come to think about it, one should make a show based on some event like the Nanking massacre with a fuckton of historical references and sources so noone can deny it* and show what happened just to stir up some shit.

Actually it's a mutually wanted thing.
The US has bases near China/Russia without having to pay for them and Japan has a strong military backing them up that's right on their ground without having to actually HAVE a military.
Also the noteworthy thing is that Japan and America have a contract that ANY attack on Japan is considered an attack against America itself. With that, noone seriously fucks around with Japan and Japan doesn't even have to establish a military.

The US has a similar system, I think.
I remember reading something about a satelite network that can be switched to an autonomous working programm where it looks for flashes that would be caused by either a missile start at certain locations or flashes of radioactive explosions on other areas (basically: if a ICBM starts in russia or New York is blown away) it can automatically start ICBMs (that, of course, are not in space as this is forbidden).

But I have no source, so... darn it...

Also: the SLAM... an unmanned rocket that uses a lightweight nuclear reactor as heatsource for a ramjet (this basically means: once started it can fly for years, if not even decades...)
It flies with 3 times the speed of sound in an altitude of about 25-50 metres and carries a number of H²-Bombs (I think 24 or something like that) which are launched once the ramjet is close enough to it's target. After the bombs are launched, it continues to fly around over hostile ground until it either is shot down or crashes into something (intentionally or otherwise).
Humans on the ground are torn apart by the pressure of the ramjet geoing Mach 3 only 30metres above them and the exhaust of the ramjet combined with the lightweight nature of the reactor will cause severe fallout in its path.

It was never built, fortunately.... this is just a concept.

The Olympic Committee recognizes Taiwan as "Chinese Taipei" or whatever, which is hardly a recognition of independence. The Olympic Committee's word also carries very little weight.

Taiwan has a very important semi-conductor and electronics industry that makes them vital to the US. While the US wants to keep relations friendly with both the PROC and Taiwan, if a conflict broke out, we can probably expect the US to try and force a settlement between both sides.

This Taiwan talk reminds me. My father was part of a deterrent mission to Asia in 1955. His carrier's job was to go around and show off the nice atomic weapons during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. I still have the ship's cruise book from that trip. I'm sure he probably had some freaky stories about shore leave in Japan if I had been old enough before he died.

At the beginning I didn't like Filicia at all. I didn't dislike her, but I thought she was the usual 'Ara Ara Ufufufu' type and I don't really care for those...

But Oh lord was I wrong, and thank god for that!

In the beginning I liked Noel, the image how she was fixing the tank and just saying 'shiawase' Fag-Note: Shiawase means Happiness I just couldn't dislike her. And boy was she getting awesome to the end. Instead of the overused Rei-clones (pun not intended) ... or rather Yuki-clones? ... anyway, she broke out of the stereotype and was all in all a really great character. Even with added inner conflict which fleshed out her concept quite nicely.

Rio... well, Yuu Kobayashi alone is reason to love her. Her character design (not only the visuals but also her personality) made her really intersting. It was nice to see her weak side when she is afraid or unsure what to do.

Kanata I must admit isn't all to my likings but I learned to love her. Especially cause she actually achieved something and had impact on the other characters which made her important and it had a 'round' feeling to it.

Kureha... well I disliked her bitching around but once I learned that she is just a little girl that wants to belong to a family-like group of people and desperately trying to find parent figures... I just could not dislike her. In the end her character was very entertaining even though she was annoying sometimes. But that was her 'job'. So it's ok.

Yumina had a great VA, her character wasn't really developed throughout the show, but she was great as suporting character and 'supporting' is what she did. I really loved her.

Klaus... manly man that likes to tan. What could you dislike about him?

Mishios visual design is just too much for my nutbladder... seriously, I want to hug her until she turned into a diamond. Also she had a few nice moments.

    Seiya was a faggot.

Well, the part where she cried in the last episode I dunno. She is 14... ish... like 15 or something.
So I think that's only natural.
Whenever she was complaining and basically being annoying I always felt a bit of pity for her. I wanted to hug her, not cause I like her but cause she needs someone to do it for her, if you know what I mean...
But anyway, less bitching would have improved her a lot. Also a bit more impact on the things that happened would have been a beneifit...

Also: Did you notice that Mishio first appeared in Episode 1 where she is the first one to spray water on Kanata? It just blew my mind...

    Stupid little me:

Aisha - Only there for one episodes worth of time but she was pretty cool. The VA just blew my mind. As a germanfag it was really enjoyable hearing her great german. I don't know if the VA can speak german, but she did a great job at voicing Aisha. The character in itself was nice as well. The moment she forgave Noel was really moving and even in the short amount of time they had for her she made a 'complete' impression. Not like a side character to have a few lines but rather a really fleshed out character that just didn't get much attention due to time restraints.
Also badass moment where she grabs the thermometer as improvised weapon.

And to add something that deserves to be mentioned again: Yuminas VA did a good job at the german parts as well. A few strange pauses and pronounciation was minimally off at a few parts but that aside she did a great job. Whoever wrote the german dialogue deserves a brofist for being awesome.

I wonder... I remember reading something about Yuminas VA being newcomer, if that's right I hope to hear more of her work soon. Maybe in Senkou no Night Raid...

she says to seiya that just because you're an orphan, doesn't mean you should do stupid faggot shit. so she tries to be 1121's reality-grounded voice of reason.

imo she's the most normal person of the group. yeah, she's a tsundere character, but her thought processes are one that a lot of people should relate to.
