  • Kimmo Alm aka "Sysop" from AnT has been spamming us for YEARS now, and has recently stepped it up. This shit has got to fucking stop. As promised, here are all of the e-mails he has sent me over the years (and my responses).

We've done all we can do about him. We've banned THOUSANDS of proxies, and deleted OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND spam posts. His attacks continue though, and we've reached the limit of what we can do.
edit: we aren't going to add captcha.

Streaming is for shows you want to watch, but you're not all that interested. That, or downloading the whole thing would fill your harddrive, or if (like me) you can't find working torrents for some of the shows you want to watch.
If you ask me, there's nothing really wrong with streaming, if the quality's good enough. But it's much better and more enjoyable to torrent the shows, then watch them on MPC.
I still stream every now and then, but only when I can't be bothered torrenting the show/can't find a living torrent anywhere.

    Listen up.

MPC with CoreAVC (or FFDShow if CoreAVC makes you feel inadequate and you don't have CUDA), and using its own internal subtitle renderer.

Oh, also, you are going to need haali.

Don't even think about Windows Media Player. See pic for why.

    VLC has:
    1) Seeking issues (causes desync)
    2) Bad hardware acceleration
    3) As a result of the lack of good hardware acceleration, it often forces videos to be downscaled
    4) VERY bad subtitle support: http://wiki.videolan.org/SubtitlesCodec

    >> Anonymous 03/14/10(Sun)21:24 No.32141339
    Let me just say this:
VLC works, and it works well for me.
    I use 0.9.9.

MPC for all intents and purposes is meant for slower processors. I have to fight it to force an aspect ratio change, which I never seem to get it to do. VLC listens right away.

VLC plays a lot of formats that MPC won't touch, and doesn't need CCCP for what I use it for. VLC can convert files, even though it seems you need a guide to get results, they usually work. Not the best thing to use to convert stuff, but sometimes it comes through when nothing else will.

MPC is good for some things, like running on slower processors (like laptops?).

It's rather unfair to say VLC is shit when 9000 anons say so but do so because someone of a friend of a friend's cousin 4 times removed says so, but just because you say so doesn't make it true.

    Ain't nothing wrong with streaming.

    Torrenting shows:
    good:
    Allows for higher-quality
    Store anime/mange locally
Variety of subs (as you can choose what group you watch)

    bad:
    DMCA
    Slow download speeds

    Streaming:
    good:
    Easy to find
No need for certain media players or codecs
    No hard-drive requirements

    Bad:
    Variations of quality of image/sound
    Limited choice of subs

I stream weekly stuff and only download when a show is "god-tier" in my opinion.

Having said that, there isn't a lot of god-tier stuff recently, so streaming is easier for me.

Either way, do what is easiest for you.

That's all VLC is; it works, but it's not the best.

The only formats I've met that CCCP doesn't chew up is mov and rmvb, and Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative takes care of that. Most of anime is in mkv, avi, and mp4 anyways, so I only had to install those for some random Chinese sub.

I really despise all the codec-hate VLC has spread around. Maybe 10 years ago codecs were awful, but now I can train any monkey who can use VLC to install CCCP, QT Alt and Real Alt.

For all intents and purposes, MPlayer (NOT KMPLAYER FOR THE LAST TIME KMPLAYER != KDE + MPLAYER) is probably the best, albeit hardest to configure, so I just use CCCP + MPC-HC
    >> Anonymous 03/14/10(Sun)21:32 No.32141599
    >>32141206
    >1) Seeking issues (causes desync)

What file formats are you using with it?

I do seeking with it, rarely do I see a problem. I usually hit pause and then unpause and the problem goes away. File formats: FLV, MP4, MPG, WMV. I use ver. 0.9.9.

    >2) Bad hardware acceleration

Probably because it should be turned off? Not all hardware acceleration works on all video cards. I turn it off and I don't consider it an issue.

    >3) As a result of the lack of good hardware acceleration, it often forces videos to be downscaled

Never had any issues with that. I don't have downscale issues on my system.

    >4) VERY bad subtitle support:

I've run MKVs with ASS sub streams and it rendered them, different fonts, colors, and various placement. You ARE turning on the subs, aren't you?

I'm just not seeing the problems you are.
