Personally, Yakitate kinda fell flat for me after a while. I think it was when the jokes became impossible to understand without massive explanation even for someone who was born in Japan. So somewhere around the end of the Monaco Cup. I think it coulda stood to be a good ten volumes shorter.

The part where Bambi cut his thumb deep to the bones made me feel so fucking queasy. Partly because I can relate the feeling of using knifes at very fast pace, though not even 1/3rd of what these pros are doing.

It's hard to continue a manga about food without reaction shots and tournament arcs, because, well, you can't eat a manga page. You can't smell it. Hell, because most eastern manga are B&W, you can't even really look at cooking dishes most of the time. At least, look at them like food. It's an unexpectedly hard genre of manga to keep interesting, I think.

Things happen in this manga. It doesn't keep character relations static like a lot of other series do, and that's part of what I like about it.
