  • Over the past 48 hours 4chan's formspring page has gotten over 12,000 questions, and I've received over 3,000 e-mails. Many thanks to everyone who submitted a question, and sent me a message! I was able to respond to a few hundred e-mails and had hoped to start answering questions on formspring, but it seems that the number of questions broke the page. Once that's sorted out, I'll sift through them and answer as time allows. Thanks again for all of the support!

In other news, /rs/ now processes MediaFire/MegaUpload/a bunch of other links correctly (this had been broken for months). The old links should be updated in 24-48 hours. Thanks to Popcorn Mariachi for spontaneously appearing and fixing this.

    I will buy anime when

They release 720p 1080p HD encodes
    In MKV format
    Are x264 encoded
Are released within 24 hours of airing in Japan
    Have ass subtitles
Must be available for download with no DRM and contain no advertisements.

I would pay a dollar an episode for each one. When the industry does that I will consider buying anime.

    Correct /a/non.

That is the only one, but only because CN put up most of the funds to get the S2 made. This is what happens, a US company has to approach the Studio, and basically bribe them to make it. This will never happen. Funi, Sentai, etc make way too much money with very little effort to put out money to get a series made.

I'm not arguing that NA sales are meaningless. The overriding fact in anime production is that sales numbers outside of japan are pointless. Did gundam W popularity in the US have anything to do with the creation of SEED? No, regardless of GW performance in the states, SEED was going to get made anyway.

The point is, Anime is made for Japanese, any money they make from overseas licenses is icing.

Which RAW? what if the raw sucks? Most good fansubbing crews have a raw provider. Some one who rips/then encodes raw. With HD content this can take some time. Plus then the crews have to view it, trans it, edit it, time it, QC it. packaging it into a mkv and encode it is insignificant in the long run. Mazui is good at the 'with in 24hr' with railgun.

Creating an ass is the most time consuming portion of it. Plus I enjoy the karaoke which is near impossible with out the attachments of mkv.

Both Corea-fags and Chink-fags run their fan sub with .ass files. Every raws have same timing with only difference being the existence of the sponsor, which is constant 10 sec difference.

I'm pretty sure specific format is a big issue.
Unless something happened I don't know in last few month, PS3 can only play specific formats of AVI, MP4, and some other shitty ones no one cares about.
And yeah, PS3 also does have problems with subs. There is program that allows you to add subtitles in the way PS3 want, but you need to get your hands on the .ass file anyway.

It's the same reason why it's illegal to record something here and post it online.
The TV companies pay the anime studios for the rights to broadcast.
They don't want unauthorized distribution of the shows going around the internet because they don't have any control of it.
It's the same reason why anything that's copyrighted gets taken off the internet.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/10(Sun)17:06 No.31581405
Broadcasters pay for the rights to broadcast a show. The TV station then makes their money by using advertising. Popular shows equal more revenue from advertising.

People in Japan get their anime for free since the advertising ultimately ends up funding it. The money from the TV stations don't cover the costs of production usually, and they have to make up for it in DVD sales and so on.

Hey if you buy it that's your choice. I just don't it's a very good investment myself. But you're right that it's going to take a long time for it to be licensed, if it is at all. It really sucks when an Anime that you want to buy never gets licensed. I know that most of Macross, Only Yesterday, and a lot of other titles will never be released here and that's when it becomes difficult for fans to contribute.

I think that Sayonara Zetsubou sensei will do okay myself. The manga is doing pretty well from what I've heard and it's going to be sub-only which means that ti will be cheaper.
