OP here, I'm going in a costume myself. It's a crappy Afro Samurai costume i just threw together and believe me it's pretty bad. (made it in 10 minutes out of old karate gear).

There will be about 3 metric fucktons of the strongest varieties of Weeaboos you'll ever find. From the rabid yaoi fangirls to "Sailor Beefcake" and other horrors of the fandom, they'll all be there.
And about 5% of them will shower over a 3-4 day span. Expect to be surrounded by some rather foul stenches.
That aside, if you do spot some actually non-shit cosplays (I've actually had the pleasure of meeting an actual trap Mizuho Miyanokouji that didn't suck terribly, for instance), 9/10 times they'll be ecstatic for you to take pictures of them.

Cons aren't that bad. Just avoid conversation with the yaoi fangirls and narutards, and you're good to go.

I've enjoyed all my experiences at cons. There's a lot of faggotry and failure, sure, but overall, they're alright.
Best if you bring lots of money, because the highlight for me is picking up the occasional rare import trinket (movie promotional posters, doujins, etc). I've found some stuff that would just be impossible to get ahold of over here, even using Japanese deputy services.
